LoveTheBaby
Welcome to LoveTheBaby! Here you’ll find soft goods for baby, handmade by me at our little old farmhouse in the pineywoods of East Texas.
How I love to stitch! Many of the quilts are hand-quilted and the nursery pillows and Christmas ornaments are hand-embroidered. Stitching by hand is so satisfying and on a deeper level, I feel like it’s a connection to home, to the comfort of home, to the homey-ness our hearts desire.
I think that’s what LoveTheBaby offers, a comforting celebration of baby. With 1930s feedsack reproduction fabrics (my favorite to work with), traditional and old-timey quilt patterns, the beloved favorite Scottie dog pattern, the elephant pillow inspired by a 1930s birthday card and the baby deer design based on a vintage figurine, it all brings a kind of warmth, a kind of coziness to the wonderful joy that comes with baby.
While there’s nothing more modern than a brand new baby and modern goods for that modern baby abound, I think sometimes moms and dads would like another choice, maybe something different for the nursery, for their very special baby.
A majority of my customers are mothers, but there are also grandparents, too, who might see a bit of nostalgia. There are also friends of the new mom and dad looking for a unique gift.
My background in the arts and the making is mostly self-taught with a few exceptions. My step-mother taught me to sew as a child and my dear sister-in-law patiently got me started on crochet. Otherwise, it's been books and studying the quilts and embroidery at our home made by my husband's mother and grandmother. And the want and the need to pick up a needle and thread and simply make. My training and education is in archaeology. I've been a homemaker and for a number of years now have worked with my husband at his law office.
I'm glad you stopped by. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.
