Creator of fine hand-knit and hand-spun items

Santa Maria, California

Announcement    I have been a crafter since the age of 7 when my younger brother was born. The husband of the couple that stayed with us taught me to crochet and that was that! As new crafts caught my eye, I moved on - macramé, ceramics painting, tole painting, needlepoint, cross-stitch, quilting - but nothing has held my attention as much as my love for knitting and fiber! I got my first drop spindle in 2014 and that was it! I love the idea of using something natural and creating a natural yarn from it!

I have had quite a few people ask me why the cost of my yarn is so much. For those that aren't spinners of yarn, it is a very long process. First the purchase of the fiber to spin, then the time spent at the wheel, then winding the yarn into a skein to give it a lovely soak to set all those plies. Once that is done, it is hung to dry and then the real fun begins. Once it is dried, it is weighed, yards are counted, it is tagged with all that information, then listed here on Etsy. The approximate time from beginning of the process to end is about 10-12 hours (if you're not a production spinner, like me!) When you take the listed price of $60 for a skein and divide that by 10-12, the income is only $5-$6 per hour! However, it is all worth it if the person purchasing the yarn loves it and gets to create something fabulous!!

Now that I have retired from my "real" job, my passion for creating fun and interesting items has taken over. I hope you will find something in my shop that touches your creativity, whatever that may be! Have fun!!!

About LuanneKnits

Sales 28
On Etsy since 2009

Spinning is my life!!!

My business has grown out of a love of all things fiber! I became interested in spinning in 2014 after watching people on Instagram showing their beautiful items. I purchased my first wheel in 2015 and have been seated behind it ever since. It seemed a logical progression to open my shop after I retired.

I have been buying yarn and fiber on Etsy since 2009, so I understand how purchasers like to be treated. Should you ever have a problem or question regarding any of my listings, please contact me to resolve the issue immediately.

Thank you for your interest in my shop!
