An impressively detailed miniature silhouette. It has a great vintage look to it. Luckymebeads worked with me to make sure that I would be appy with the finished silhouette. Thank you!
It's a love story really...
My etsy shop, Lucky Me Beads, began many moons ago.
Heck! I remember when etsy was in it's beta testing stage! Ha!
The shop is named after my saving grace. A fat dog named Lucky. She is and always will be my best friend. If you'd like to read about her (and my) rescue, you can do so here: http://whitneyleigh24.blogspot.com/
Around that same time I was making knit cuff bracelets, they were like wearing an explosion of beads on your wrist. Hence, the name: Lucky (my dog) Me (feelin' pretty lucky) Beads (color explosion).
I was running my own website, relics of which I'm sure you can still find somewhere in cyberspace, and toying with the idea of "recycled vintage jewelry". The idea was a hit. I started making new jewelry out of scrap vintage pieces that I would find at thrift stores and estate sales. I sold it on my own website and then on Etsy. It was great! It satisfied my picker soul and gave me something productive to do with my hands.
And then there was this boy...
I believe the headlines read:
Highschool Sweethearts Reunite!
after years spent apart, parents rejoice
So anyway, I was like "gee you're pretty swell" and he was all like "yeah" (a man of few words, that man of mine) . One day, while sitting in my studio inspiration struck! Guided by my fascination with antique lockets and reliquaries, combined with my love-struck condition, I made my first silhouette pendant and I still wear him proudly around my neck.
That was almost ten years ago.
Since then, I like to think that I've honed my skills and mastered some techniques. I've learned a lot about different papers and inks, types of resins and adhesives. And more than I care to share about air bubbles.
Of course, not all my learning has been limited to jewelry making. This man of mine and I got hitched and together we've made a mighty fine family. Three kids, four dogs and heap of laundry. We're doin' just fine.
The jewelry I create and offer here is really a combination of all my greatest loves; vintage and modern, simple and classic. I like to think that I create pieces as timeless as the love they capture.
I mean, really, at the end of the day, that's what life's all about.
Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator
I've been a maker as long as I can remember. The first handmade things I tried to sell were grass-clipping bird's nests and painted rocks. That was not successful. Making jewelry, for some reason, has just stuck. I love what I do and I hope it shows.
I'm Whitney and I make things.
Welcome to my little corner of the world.
