So cute! Great for my peacock themed wedding.
I make fun stuff out of second chance materials!
I have always needed to create and went to school to study painting. After having my son I learned to sew and a new passion was born. As I was learning to use my first sewing machine i happened into Ahpeele studios in Raleigh. I had interned there in college and worked there for a while afterwards. Being there reminded me of something that had always fascinated me... the practice t shirts. Shirts from Ahpeele are hand printed so several practice prints are executed before and during runs to test the screen, line up prints and test the colors. The shirts that get practiced on get layer upon layer of designs printed on them and effectively become trash once they are too heavily inked. I asked the owner of Ahpeele if I could have some of the shirts to practice my sewing on and an unexpected business partnership began. I now supply him with recycled shirts and he uses them to practice on. I then pick them up after a couple of months and the waste product of his business becomes the raw materials for mine. Using the Ahpeele shirts got me thinking that I could base my entire business on recycled materials, so I began to hunt for other scraps. I have found a huge resource in the scrap exchange in Durham, the Cary Creative Center and have also connected with several seamstresses and quilters in eastern NC who have helped to keep me well supplied in additional scrap/recycled fabrics so far. At first I was skeptical about asking people for their left overs. I have found though that people who truly love to make also love to see that their beloved materials get used up to the last shred. I have had so many people thank me for giving their scraps a home and a new life, that I'm no longer skeptical.
I am the owner and maker of Lucy2s. I am also a wife and mother to a lively, funny and sometimes crazy little boy. My studio is in my home and I use the time that my little one sleeps to create.
