Almost every weekend of my childhood was spent at my Grandma Luella's house. She was a 'Do It Yourself' kind of a person. She was definitely the Martha Stewart of my childhood. From gardening, sewing, embroidering, to hammer and nails she did it all. In 2001, she passed away from Breast Cancer. In my heart I wanted to find a way to keep her memory alive.
After moving from Indiana to Florida, I decided it was time for a change of pace from working various retail management jobs. The environment was warmer, the community was outgoing, and I of course needed a job. I enjoy exploring antique shops and flea markets. One day I found a few adorable vintage novelty neckties shopping in a local shop. I thought what would Luella do? She would most likely sew them into something. So, I decided why not upcycle them into something that I could use every day. After creating a button pair of owl earrings from one of the novelty neckties, I decided to incorporate my love for jewelry and sewing into a memory for Luella. Luellabird was then created.
