About Luncheonettevintage

Old is the New New

I was raised half city half country, with beloved old things and parents who loved great design and style. Family vacations we combed through barns for bentwood chairs and blue glass, for old books, for old pictures. I was always wearing Dad's army uniforms and Mom's groovy dresses. Vintage opened up a whole world of creativity and fun — a way to celebrate individuality and connect with the past.

My first official purchase was at 14: a 1920s peach satin gown from an amazing secondhand shop with a wonderful, wise shopkeeper. That gown taught me what cut on the bias meant. I wore it to school (with my father's old tweed jacket and a pair of converse hi-tops), dragging the hem, feeling like a star.

College, grad school, touring in bands, on a book tour (I'm also a writer and musician), I hunted for treasures everywhere — Miami to Missouri, Hawaii to Tucson to Vermont, from that perfect 20s dress to Victorian spectacles to atomic-era diner dishes. Frequent restaurant work honed my belief in great service. As I wrote articles and books about design and fashion I learned even more, just fueling my obsession. Being obsessed is a necessary part of the job description, believe me!

When I settled up here in the Catskills, it was time to send those treasures back out in the world and put my knowledge to good use. That's how Luncheonette Vintage was born. Now you'll find me in the kitchen, cooking up delicious vintage while the chickens graze and the dogs play. See that girl peeking inside that old hunting coat hanging in a barn? Folding an old recipe into a package? That's me. It's a great life.
