Handcrafted Hangboards with functional beauty

Lappeenranta, Finland | 37 Sales

Announcement    Luomus is a Finnish word, one of the most beautiful of them. In English 'Luomus' translates into creation, but in my mind the translation does not pay homage to the original word which has more softer and delicate tone in its meaning. Creation can be anything, but 'Luomus' has beauty built in. In my craft I create, but I feel that just creating is not good enough.

Luomus Hangboards are beautiful yet highly functional.

Packaging these hangboards for over the ocean shipments is a pleasure. I printed out my own tape so when you receive your package, you'll know immediately from whom it is ;)
If you don't have branches, you can hug a tree! Tie the hangboard around a tree trunk to warm up your hands before climbing the next boulder.
I am preparing some Ruby red hangboards as stock is running low. These hangboards have proven to be excellent home training equipment during this Corona Lockdown time. Postman still carries these over the ocean to US! Be safe! -Ville

An engineer creating functional beauty from wood.

I am an engineer.

I have Doctor's degree on technology.

I love to create.

I have been occasional woodworker for my whole life, but couple of years ago my wise wife asked me that what had happened to my dream of owning my own woodshop. I answered: "Nothing, it is on hold until I retire from my day job at age 65 or so." (in about 30 years) She continued: "But you live now. You should make your dream a reality." I have to admit, that I was puzzled, but from that day on I started to reorganize our two-car-garage in to woodshop. After couple of years spending most of my free time in there creating I decided to give it a try and left my day job to become a fulltime creator. This has been the second best decision I have made in my life. (For those of you who are interested, the best decision has been marrying my wife.)

I like to make functional things or things with a purpose out of wood. That is the engineer in me. But before I start making anything, I have to have a vision that the result will be easy on the eye. Therefore I like to call my products with a Finnish word 'Luomus' which stands for creation with a subtle hint of beauty.

When I craft, I challenge myself to engineer all the joinery so that I shall not need any fasteners. By rejecting the idea of using fasteners results into durable products which will last for ages. If eventually I end up using a fastener, it will have a defined, obvious and well engineered purpose.
