About

A dab of paint, maybe a coat of wax, and perhaps some chemicals, all to create the object in mind.

I started my shop while I was attending art school in 2008, and years later I'm still going strong. I studied abroad in Ireland and then graduated from Columbus College of Art and Design in 2010 with a BFA in Fine Arts. Since then I've taken masters level courses in painting, ceramics, collage, and various other subjects in a masters program at Hollins University, in Roanoke, Virginia. I've had the pleasure of working in a wide range of mediums and selling my creations through Etsy and look forward to a growing audience for me work.

I've been working in photography since 2005 and love all the sights and smells of the darkroom. Though I majored in fine arts, photography is one of my greatest passions. I've been able to teach it the summers of 2011 and 2012 at Camp Winnebago in Fayette, ME. And am currently setting up my own home darkroom.

I also love watercolors, and have taken pride in making sure all of my colors used are archival and will last for many years to come with the bright details they hold today. I enjoy working in a smaller scale with tiny details that invite you into their petite worlds.

Printmaking is something I've dabbled in and use as a more casual way of exploring ideas. I have some linoleum and woodblock prints, and in the past I've printed on fabric as well.

In addition I've been creating collages for 4 years now and find that it unites many of my ideas in a way that flows naturally for me. I use paper and found artifacts in transfer and adhesive processes in some pieces. In others encaustic paints and wax are used to make layered pieces with drips, softened edges, and interesting textures.

Besides all that I've tried silversmithing jewelry, stone carving sculptures, oil painting, and have greatly enjoyed working with clay, both on and off a wheel. I may open a ceramics store in the future.

Right now though, I'm settling into my new home, continuing work on paintings, starting new collages, and making a happy space to live and work in as I enter a new chapter of my life. You can read about it in my blog at http://www.LydiaDickson.com

Hi! I'm Lydia Dickson (Weary). I'm an artist living in Durham, North Carolina.

I work in a lot of different mediums because I love to experiment and try out new ideas. So the items you see in my store may change from day to day, but don't worry if you see something you like that is sold and want a similar piece I can probably do that! If you would like a custom piece please contact me and we can discuss your idea even if it's not like the examples of work I've shown here. I'm willing to give most anything a shot, and have even painted one of my celtic designs on a drum.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
