I love this hat, and get lots of compliments on it! I didn't buy it just for vanity, having a large head I usually just buy whatever fits. In this case I am recovering from reconstructive surgery after a successful skin cancer procedure, and I wanted to hide the bandages and then the incisions from the sun - this is a really stylish way to recover! Thank you

The Tale of a California Hatmaker

Hi! My name is Lynda and I LOVE my Etsy Shop!

Since 2009, I've been carefully wrapping my hand-made creations, knowing that somewhere in the world, somebody is going to be very excited when they open the box.

But the Lynda Hats story really goes back to my first trip to London, where I fell head-over-heels in love with the world of fashion. Somehow, I got a job at Biba (Look it up on Wikipedia. Fabulous!), and that put me right in the middle of swingin' '70's London style. Lucky Me!!!

When I got back to Los Angeles, I enrolled at the world-famous FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising), where I began designing and learning the lifelong craft of Millinery on my way to an AA degree in Fashion.

At the time, the Sunset Strip in Hollywood was bursting with new music every night, and I started photographing bands for magazines. When I went out, I wore my hats and people began asking if I could make something for them. I designed a label and dreamed of some day opening my own shop.

But at first, a booth would have to do! I heard that they were starting something called The Hollywood Farmers Market, and I thought it might be the perfect place to sell my ultra-romantic hats, I loved it! Everybody was super nice and my hats were an immediate hit! (Plus, I became a good cook, thanks to all the friendly advice, farm fresh produce, and home made ingredients on sale).
I started setting up at street fairs all over Southern California.

One day, somebody asked if I'd like to sell my hats in boutiques all over the country. Of course, I said "Yes!" and got my first representative at the famed California Mart!

I began designing Bridal Accessories when my best friend from school opened a shop called "Victorian Cowgirl" in Sedona, AZ. Candace makes beautiful wedding dresses that look back to a more romantic time, and my hats were a perfect fit.

I just love thinking about somebody walking down the aisle wearing something I made, and that inspired me to start designing tiaras, combs, clips, wreaths and belts for brides.

Finally, In 2009, I got to open the shop I always dreamed about. And I don't even need to leave home, because it's located on Etsy Street!

I love getting up in the morning with a cup of tea and walking into my workshop to work all day in a creative space. I still get to take photos for magazines, but now it's at LA Art Gallery Openings. I love driving up the coast and tasting California wines. I love going to the gym, cooking for my friends, and all of the fabulous costumes in Downton Abbey, Outlander and Game of Thrones!

This year, Lynda Hats celebrates 30 years of happy hat making! 30 Years of doing what I love! I am blessed and I love my life!!!

Thank you so much for stopping by my Etsy Shop! Enjoy yourself and have a wonderful day!

Every Hat, Hair Accessory and Bridal creation in the Lynda Hats line is an original design, handcrafted in California from the highest quality materials. I am a formally trained milliner and have taken pride in making beautiful things by hand since 1986.

When I come across vintage hats, ribbon or flowers, it's hard to resist wanting to design something. Because of the unpredictable availability of these materials, I can only make a limited number of pieces, and each is an original. Vintage materials are listed in the description of each One-Of-A-Kind piece.
