About

Makers gonna make

Lynley & Co is a small, family run business in NE Minneapolis. We are really trying to figure out what it means to unite community and creativity together seamlessly. We have been through a lot of changes recently, but here's a look into our history...

Lynley & Co (formerly blurry edges of love) grew out of necessity a little while ago. My husband was in graduate school, working to become an art teacher, and I was a new stay at home mom to a wonderful daughter (who is now 7 years old). As a stay-at-home mom, I found my life to be one I loved, but also one that was a bit stifling at times. If I had a productive mom-at-home type of day, it might mean I accomplished things like laundry, cleaning dishes and bathrooms, and making dinner. Inspiring, I know. Take a moment and think about the logistical things that potentially go into running a household. None are permanent. Clothes get dirty again, as do dishes and bathrooms, and all meals get eaten... and all of this happens very quickly!!

I found that my life was lacking creativity and permanence. I needed to create something... anything... that would stick around. So, I started making stuff... very slowly. First accessories, like fabric flowers to clip everywhere, then simple pieces of jewelry for myself and family members. I loved making these wearable pieces of art, so I kept going. I opened this etsy shop in 2012, did my first craft shows, and I was hooked.

Since then, I've experienced slow growth in my art, my space, my community, and my business. This process of creative growth has opened me up emotionally and spiritually, and I have come to heavily rely on the creative process, as it keeps me present to my life and inspired. This is crazy sometimes, but ultimately, it's where I find the most love and creativity, so this too keeps the process going.

In 2014, we moved into an artist community in NE Minneapolis (we are currently still here) and had another baby. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with 2 kids at home. Couple that with a work space that begs for art to be made in it! Think high ceilings, open spaces, big windows that let in lots of natural light. This led to some fast and big growth in my creative life!

Living in this wonderful space, and experiencing a bit of relief (as my daughter went off to school for the first time), I have been able to more fully realize what it is I want to create! Jewelry seemed to make sense historically, but when given this physical and mental space, I realized I am truly and fully a sewist! I swiftly dove in to this new pursuit, vowing to make 85% of my wardrobe the first year I taught myself to sew! I did it and I'm still going strong.

To reflect this new passion, items now featured in our shop include products like purses and bags, pillows, scarves, and the like. Block printing and painting the fabric before sewing lets me make patterns that reflect the simplicity I long for in my life.

Please enjoy looking around our online space. Get inspired to make space for more creativity in your life!

Don't be afraid to say you're an artist... talk about it, yell it, whisper it... and remind yourself of it often. I am a stay at home mom with a need to create beauty that won't disappear.
