About

The Practice of Poetography

Welcome to my shop!

[You can enter my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/lynnlangmade]

I'm a self-taught, fine art photographer and poet who specializes in creating beautiful black and white, beach, and Paris photographs that are inspired by my passion for nature and the world around me.

Despite the fact that I’m self-taught, my work has been featured by editors of top photo sharing sites and online magazines as well as recognized by world-renowned photographers. I have 30 thousand “fans” following my work on Google+ and almost 2500 following my work on Facebook.

(I am also an identical twin and the mother of twins :)

A Little about Me . . .
I have always had a unique way of seeing the world. From the time I was a child, I was always captivated by the objects in the natural world that most people overlooked. I was spellbound by the shape of a tree, the sway of long grass in the wind, or the texture of clouds. Sometime I would just stop in my tracks and stare at the beauty of raindrops glistening on a wet winter leaf. It took me a while before I realized that this way of looking at the world was a gift—a gift that I could share with others.

In terms of the subjects of my photography, I find beauty in the natural world as close as the flowers and birds in my own garden and as far as the ancient wonders, castles, and buildings in remote locations like Greece, Venice, and Paris. Indeed, as an avid hiker and nature lover, some of my favorite places to shoot are the national parks all over this country—everything from plunging waterfalls to limpid lakes.

It is my hope that each of my photos will come alive and tell its own story—becoming a kind of living poetry. A means to remember that poetry was originally sung, not read, and that when we sing together—when we make poetry together—we come back not only to what makes us human, but also what makes life worth living. Thus, I like to say that I’m not just a photographer—I practice poetography.

Here are a few things that inspire me as an artist:

California Dreamin’
It’s not easy living in California or San Francisco for that matter. There is just too much beauty…too much sun… and too much fun to get anything done ;) If you love the water and particularly the ocean there is no better place in the world to live. California is host to over 1,000 miles of beaches and has over 118 “beach cities.” It’s also home to two world-renowned skylines-- San Francisco, Los Angeles—as well as charming towns such as Monterey and Carmel by the Sea. 1000-year-old towering redwoods line the northern coast on one end while dessert sands sift through Southern California on the other. America’s most beautiful park and national treasure, Yosemite, sits in the center. It is hard not to be spell-bound by the diverse natural beauty all around you in California, and I am inspired by this beauty each and every day.

Paris & Europe
I personally don’t believe you can go to Paris without it changing who you are as a person. Paris changed me in the sense that it allowed me to see that old world charm and romance aren’t just myths, but are still very much alive in the world. I’ve been to Paris 4 times, yet each time I went I found it more intriguing and more magical than the last. I have never felt so alive in the world as when I was photographing this city and I tried to capture that feel –a sense of awe and wonder – in my Paris photography so that others who have been to Paris can keep those special memories alive or others who haven’t yet been might begin to realize their dream…

Books, Words, & Poetry
I am one of the rare photographers on Etsy who has spent years not only teaching poetry but also writing it. I have a PhD in literature and I’ve been writing poetry for over 20 years. Words and story-telling are thus central to my artistic aesthetic--especially my own words. My fascination with the interplay of image and word can be seen throughout the body of my work.

Ballet
I was a ballerina for many years so all the ballet photographs in my work are self-portraits. Thus my ballet photography is uniquely authentic and central to my photographic aesthetic…

Children, especially Twins
My recent journey into motherhood has meant that my photographic vision has been refocused on the unique way little people see the world. Whether it’s reading a book or rolling around in the grass, more and more my twin babies—Blake and Jade—are becoming my muses, allowing me to see my everyday world “anew.”

If you order a print in a custom size, please allow up to 2 weeks for your order to arrive within the US. If you would like your items to be shipped Priority, please convo me and the shipping costs will be adjusted.

>> Do You Ship Internationally?

For International Customers:

I do not collect any customs when sending packages. Any custom fees, taxes, tariffs, duties, etc. that may be incurred at the time of delivery would be at the discretion of your country's tax regulations. I have no way of calculating how much these fees would be, should they occur, and Lynn Langmade Photography is not responsible for those charges. For any additional information refer to your local customs agency. Returns of international orders will not be accepted due to customs fees.

Please note - All shipping fees in my shop cover postage, my shipping supplies and include a small fee for handling.
Refunds and Exchanges
Refunds and Exchanges

I take the greatest care when shipping items and they should get to you in perfect condition. I will never ship a damaged order to you. Photographs are mailed in protective archival sleeves within rigid photo-mailers. If for any reason they arrive damaged, please contact me immediately. I will replace any photo damaged during delivery free of charge .

Remember that all orders are essentially custom orders, so please consider carefully before ordering. It is unlikely I will be able to sell a returned photo to a new customer and thus recuperate the time and money I have spent to process the photo, place the order, print and ship it. This is especially true for photos larger than 8x10. For these reasons, I will accept returns or exchanges of prints up to size 8x10 (minus initial shipping costs & return shipping costs) up to 14 days after you have received your order. I do not accept returns on large format prints or canvas gallery wraps.

IMPORTANT -

Print Cropping; Most photos in my shop are listed at an 8x12 (2x3) or 8x10 (4x5) cropping ratio. The cropping ratio not only indicates the size of the print, but also how much of the image is included in the final print. ***Remember that photos printed at 5x7 and 11x14 will look slightly different. I do not accept refunds for photos if you do not like the way a photo was cropped and didn't read the listing details and were expecting something different than what you actually ordered.

Color: Please keep in mind that every computer monitor displays color a bit differently, so what you see on your computer screen could conceivably vary a little bit from the prints you receive. I professionally calibrate and coordinate my studio monitor with my photo lab to ensure the best possible results. I am happy to provide, and encourage you to request, test prints to help you verify the color is what you expected. Simply send me a convo after the order is placed. For these reasons, I cannot accept returns if you do not like the color.

Additional Policies and FAQs

PHOTOS ARE NOT MATTED OR FRAMED (unless you create a custom order) and I do not accept returns on photos because a customer has misread the listing and or assumed prints come framed despite clear warnings placed in the listing and throughout my shop that prints do not come framed.

I am open to custom orders. If you would like a different size than what is listed, please convo me and I will do my best to accommodate you.

I welcome your wholesale inquiries. Sorry, I'm not able to take consignment requests.
