One-of-a-Kind Kimono Bow Ties Made by CHIEKO, a Japanese Mom, and Stroke Survivor

Hand-stitched bow ties, each made in Japan by Chieko, Mabo's Mom, using family kimonos and other Japanese fabrics. The profit from these ties goes back to Japan to help Mabo's parents after losing everything, including the family home they designed, due to his mother's stroke and the loss of the family architecture firm. Yes, she does all of this handwork with only one fully functional hand! These one-of-a-kind pieces are wearable art for your neck.

    Owner, Curator

Hello, I am Mabo. Mabowties is a love project to connect Chieko, my mom in Japan, to people all over the world with one-of-a-kind bow ties that she made. I hope you enjoy her creation. All money you spend goes to her to support her life.

  • Chieko

    Designer, Mabo's Mom

Chieko is Mabo's mom living in Japan. She had to discontinue her architect career due to a stroke in 2008. She found a new passion to create one-of-a kind bow ties using our family kimonos and other Japanese fabrics. She hand-stitches everything.
