About

Jewelry Inspired by Ethnic Beauty

I love to create elegant ethnic jewelry with unusual beads from all over the world.
Thank you so much for visiting my shop!

After years of collecting beautiful unique ethnic beads I started four years ago with the creation of jewelry. I really enjoy the creative process of thinking and puzzling with the unusual ethnic colors and the different bead sizes.
I combine my passion with a very inspiring job of working with school drop-outs, and I have a beautiful 16 year old daughter.

I have studied Social Anthropology of non-western (development) countries. I have been traveling a lot, and I have worked for 6 year with refugees in Pakistan and Ethiopia. I am very fortunate that I got the chance to see many many beautiful and inspiring places.
Studying non-European/American cultures has always been my hobby and my work. As an anthropologist I am fascinated by the meaning, value and history of handcrafted household items and accessories within different cultures. My home looks like a small museum :-).

During my travels I also discovered the beauty of traditionally handmade beads. Many valuable and rare beads are often forgotten lying at the back of a small market shop. By re-arranging them I create ready to wear necklaces of today, and I aim to revive their special and mysterious appearance.

I have been wearing ethnic bohemian style necklaces all my life, so I have quite some experience :-). I have chosen to create modest everyday necklaces with interesting ethnic beads, as well as eye-catching but wearable statement necklaces that will be lovely for an evening out or a wedding occasion. In the descriptions you will find interesting background information about the beads. Just have a look around. Hope you will like them too!

My shopname
Macchiato may be best known as a mixed substance of black and white ;-). That is, coffee mixed with milk. For my jewelry I carefully ''mix'' ethnic beads from different continents and with a different history.
Diversity and ''mixed cultures'' have been a theme all my life. Besides drinking lots of Macchiato during my three years stay in Ethiopia ;-), my ''Macchiato Jewelry'' is a reflection of my mixed Surinam and Dutch background. It also refers to my work with refugees from many different countries, as well as to my present job where I coach young people with diverse ethnic backgrounds. Through my jewelry I found a great way of mixing my background and experience with the many interesting cultures that I cherish so much.

Payment
Orders will be send after I receive your payment.

I offer the following means of payment:
- Direct Checkout through Etsy, by using your credit card. This means you don't need a Paypal account.
- PayPal
- Bank Transfer, preferably within the Netherlands. A Worldwide bank transfer means that it might take a week before I receive your payment, and therefore your order will be send much later.
Shipping
1. All orders will take 2-3 business days to be processed after receiving your payment. My items will be well packed for shipping and delivered to the post office. Because I care for our environment, most of the time you will receive your purchase in a recycled envelope or carton box.

2. Shipping of the necklaces is with priority mail, uninsured and unregistered international mail (without tracking code) using PostNL.

Larger items / packages will be send with trackandtrace code, uninsured international mail. The shipping costs without track and trace code will be a bit cheaper.

Please contact me if you prefer a shipment without a track-and-trace code and/or insured shipping. The extra costs are for the buyer.

3. Shipping time:
Shipping time to the US / Worldwide: approx. 10 to 20 working days
Shipping time to EU countries: approx. 5 - 10 working days
Shipping time to non-EU countries: approx. 10 working days

4. Shipping costs
Shipping costs are calculated according to the rates of the postal company PostNL from the Netherlands (Europe). Unfortunately the shipping costs for a parcel are relatively high from the Netherlands to Worldwide / US, but this is due to the standard rates and I don't get any profit from it.

5. Customs
As I am not familiar with the policy of imported goods of your country, I am not responsible for any extra fees occurring during the transportation. All countries have different import & export customs fees. You could check at your local post office if you have any doubts.

6. Also, if an item can not be imported to your country or you are not authorized to import such kind of items, I am not responsible for any fees, including return shipping costs or customs fee etc.
Refunds and Exchanges
1. If you are not satisfied with the product and service for any reason, please contact me before you leave negative feedback and rating. I will resend or refund or give you an alternative solution so you will completely satisfied. My goal is to deliver a product that will make you happy!

2. If you are not 100% satisfied with my handmade work, you should contact me asap and you can return it for a refund within 7 days from the day you received it or signed for the package.
You will have to pay for the return’s shipping fee and send it back in the same condition as it arrived. I will refund you after I have received the item back, with a deduction of 10% for the Etsy Payment Processing & Transaction fees.

3. If an item has not arrived at your doorstep within 2 months (to the US / Worldwide), or within 1 month (to Europe), I will issue a refund with a deduction of 10% to cover the Etsy Payment Processing & Transaction fees.

4. If an item will be returned (unopened) to me for unknown reasons, there will be two options. I either resend it again and you will cover the shipping fees, or I will issue a refund with a deduction of 10% to cover the Etsy Payment Processing & Transaction fees.

5. If my item arrives broken or defect upon receipt, please let me know within 5 days from the day you received it or signed for the package (preferably with a picture attached to the email). If possible I will send you the same or a similar item or you could choose for a refund, without any extra charges.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please note: I am trying hard to reflect the actual colors in my pictures. However, computer monitors vary in colors shown, so you could expect slight variations in colors of the real items.
