Announcement   Laddies and Lassies, welcome to Macgems. I specialize in acquiring natural rough gemstones as they would come directly from the mine and custom cut them into gems of great beauty in my at-home work shop. I then design and handcraft, in the ancient craft of wire wrapping, a unique pendant mounting creating a picture frame to showcase the gem, with 14K gold filled or sterling silver square wire, to suit the shape and color of the gemstone.

Occasionally I cut and mount flawless gemstones created in the laboratory. The result of either type of stone is an eye-catching, unique, long lasting gemstone pendant. I also cut and polish opals from rough stones mined in Australia, and handcraft a mounting as described above. Each pendant includes a sterling silver chain or an especially manufactured gold colored chain which comes with a lifetime guarantee. Occasionally, when a stone is too small to permit wirewrapping, I will mount it in a simple but attractive traditional mounting

To view the larger picture and specifications of each pendant just click directly on the thumbnail photo.

Just a word about opals. Opals need a lot of sunlight to bring out the best color. I am told that the Australians grade their finished opals in the bright sunlight from mid morning to mid afternoon when the light is at it's best. Photographing an opal to bring out it's true color is a different matter. Reflections often highlight and subdue its true beauty, which is only apparent when worn.

Welcome to macgems! Most of my work consists of custom cutting semi-precious gemstones and hand crafting a unique pendant mounting in the ancient craft of wirewrapping. I try to keep the mount simple but attractive to showcase the stone. Most of the mounts are crafted from square wire of sterling silver or 14K gold filled. An appropiate 18 inch neck chain is always included.
