5 out of 5 starsA truly unique experience in today’s society, but one you’ll never regret. AJ is a master of his craft and an absolute pleasure to work with. Be prepared to wait, but quality always takes time. The attention to detail will blow you away. I can not express enough how thoroughly impressed I am with the whole experience.

5 out of 5 starsOK, so I am a very picky customer. My brother who owns a custom clothing shop says I am the most difficult customer he's ever had, and AJ exceeded my expectations. He was amazingly easy to work with, collaborative and helpful. We did a fitting muslin first (extra) which was incredibly helpful in realizing a custom idea, and his changes made the final garment perfect. Can't recommend highly enough.

5 out of 5 starsThe problem with getting a suit from MacheteNSons is that you’ll never be able to return to buying off-the-rack suits (or, at least, not without a strong sense that, in doing so, you’ve failed at life, disappointed your ancestors, and let down your country). By now, I have at least half a dozen suits from MacheteNSons -- and am running out of kidneys to sell to fund my habit. I love the old-fashioned, thicker suiting fabrics that MacheteNSons specialize in. They feel better to wear than modern off-the-rack suits, they fit better, they look better, they last better, they drape better, they never need pressing (they never get that nasty crumpled look that modern suits get after about 10 minutes of wear). Do yourself a favour and get a suit made by these guys -- or, better yet, get six, eight, ten of them ...

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful workmanship, in a style that suits me well. Whatever the latest clothing style happens to be, it’s unlikely to look great on every body type-just one reason to rummage through history and consider vintage styled clothing with an aesthetic that suits you. If all my clothes were made this well, I probably would wear out far fewer of them too.

Bespoke Tailoring in Denver
In 2009, Lianna was designing for Liz Claiborne in NYC, and AJ had just finished up a Masters degree from Harvard.
They had met years before at the Pratt Institute (where Lianna studied fashion design and learned traditional couture techniques).
Each was looking to create a business that was more hands-on and traditional---with a more direct connection both to the clients and to the materials.
With the "supply chain management" of the 1990s and outsourcing to Asia, garments had become so much less durable. The fabrics had become thinner and thinner. And the obsession with making garments cheaper and cheaper meant that the wages for the garment industry were very low.
They wanted to make garments from better and heavier natural fiber fabrics. To make garments that the clients helped to design---that were individual and connected to the clients.
And, ultimately, to build a studio (in the USA!) that included the most skilled independent tailors and dressmakers and could pay enough to nurture the craftsmen so that they could pursue their businesses full-time.
(See the bios of all of the artisans that work with us and links to their own Etsy shops).
Vigilante Laboratories here on Etsy became the first outlet for their new work and new couture concept. This was followed by the MacheteNSons menswear shop here on Etsy.
For the first few years, Lianna and AJ literally did everything---from patternmaking, to sales, to cutting, sewing, fabric sourcing, photography, shipping, sewing machine repair, and modeling.
When visiting AJ's hometown of Denver, Colorado right at the time of the stock market crash, they purchased a Victorian cottage in an industrial area right near downtown to use as a workspace for the tailoring and dressmaking shop.
Now the studio has become an amazing hub filled with the most exciting designs and gorgeous projects. AJ and Lianna are still involved in the designing and making of every piece. And every piece is handmade from start to finish here in Denver.
After moving to Denver from NYC, they launched the blogs www.DenverDressmakers.com and www.DenverBespoke.com to market to local customers and to showcase their work.
