I’ve always enjoyed making things. From a very young age I can remember the joy, and often frustration from trying to create something. Yarn was a particular favourite and I could often be found, deep in concentration with my tongue sticking out while my knitting needles squeaked away. Mostly, my creations would amount to a series of holes and never more ambitious than a scarf. A short one….

Fast forward to 1992 and my son Matthew was born. I successfully knitted him a hat and some mittens, but he looked so terrified when I tried them on him that they were never seen again. The knitting needles were put away.

In 2013, now age 21, Matthew announced one day that he was going to learn to crochet. To say I was surprised is somewhat of an understatement. He had never shown the least bit of interest in wool before. He and his girlfriend, now wife, Claire, went off to Hobbycraft and came back with a crochet hook and a ball of blue yarn.

Many hours (may have been days later) he produced a small pig. With two legs. His enthusiasm had run out after the second leg, but the point was made. He could crochet and that was the end of that. I, on the other hand, was fascinated. I picked up the hook and the rest of the blue wool and have been hooked ever since. Matt and Claire have always been very supportive of my yarny endeavours. They have a disproportionately large amount of crocheted items in their house!

Now, as we approach the end of another year, Matt will soon be 30. He’s built himself a wonderful family. I have two wonderful grandchildren and an amazing daughter in law. I’m at a point in my life now when all I really want to do is play with yarn and write crochet patterns. Matt and his family are at the start of their journey. From here on, Matt and Claire will be the driving force behind MyCraftLife. They have some really amazing ideas, I'm honestly really excited to get my hands on some of the things they are working on!
