I can remember spending weekends with my grandparents as a very small child. My grandmother would cook a big breakfast. I remember when she first let me help make her delicious mini biscuits with ham and swiss cheese. Most of my memories of her center around meals and her kitchen and table. As my grandmother cooked, she was doing more than providing food for basic nourishment. She was preparing a meal as an expression of service and love.

I come from a lineage of women who are knowledgable in the kitchen, but who also were gifted seamstresses. So as I learned to sew, merging cooking with what I was making was a natural fit. I started sewing aprons as gifts for family and friends. And realized how much I loved it and how these gifts were treasured by those I loved. I was encouraged by friends to open an etsy shop.

When I sew an apron or oven mitt or pot holder, I wonder who will buy it and use it. What will they be cooking? Who will they be feeding? How will this kitchen accessory be an expression of their personality?

I am a college professor by day and find time to sew on the weekends or over school breaks. Sewing is my therapeutic release. My body relaxes as I start to sew and create knowing I will soon have something made that will be well used.
