100% of sales go to O'Brien School for the Maasai

Each piece of jewelry is handmade by a Maasai mother working to support her family and her child's education. The art of beadwork has been passed down from generation to generation in Maasai families, making these "jewelry mamas" in Northern Tanzania experts in their craft, and each piece a work of art. The project is run by the O'Brien School for the Maasai, a primary school in Northern Tanzania that educates and empowers underserved children from preschool through grade seven. The project began when the school saw a need to provide an economic empowerment opportunity to some of the most marginalized women in the world. Many of the jewelry mamas are widows living in a patriarchal society, and some have no other income outside of jewelry work. This employment has helped these women and their families immensely. The payment from a single bracelet can feed a jewelry mama's family for three days!

I made my first trip to Tanzania in Jan of 2017. Meeting the Maasai women who make the jewelry had a huge impact on me and I knew that I wanted to volunteer my time to help sell their beautiful jewelry and in turn help them support their families.
