Announcement   Welcome to my shop.

It's always a pleasure to hear from people....your thoughts, opinions, suggestions...all welcome here. I have gotten to know some really great people through my Etsy shop and it's fun to share especially with people whose lives are so different from my own....but right now, I am envying people who live in warm climates or who are in the midst of summer. ...very jealous.

If you're looking for something special, send me a convo. Inquiries and suggestions are always appreciated. They do influence my work. I can almost always make adjustments to one of my creations so if something's not the right length/size for you, please inquire. I literally have thousands of stones to choose from....I'm a buyer as well as a seller. Describe it and I will search through my treasures to see if I have it.

I often use recycled silver which means that something got taken apart and put together in a new way. I like to leave some clue, on the back. Marrying a new design with a vintage finding is a m romance made in metal-smith heaven..

I am also writing a blog. This is new for me and I hope to get more comfortable doing it. I am not as conscientious about this as I should be...I need encouragement. Maybe I will improve.

If you're interested in previews of what I'm working on, that's where photos will be. Am interested in feedback on what you may find interesting. I live in Greenwich Village and there's always lots going on. Some of the news in my neighborhood hasn't been so cheerful lately.

Anyway, it is http://madstarsilver.blogspot.com/

I tend to work on lots of things at once and post them at the same time. If you want alerts to new postings, send me your email address and I'll put you in my Etsy email block.

This is a beautiful treasured item. I rarely buy jewelry for myself but when I do I usually come here for unique pieces. Thanks again!

Shop policies

Last updated on May 20, 2014
Welcome and thank you for taking a moment to read about my shop policies. Everything begins with the stone. I study a stone that captures my interest (it’s almost a hypnotic process) and, eventually, an idea takes form. Sometimes a lovely stone reminds me of a literary character or a person that I know. That can shape the design process, too. When I worked as an interior designer, I wanted the result to reflect the personality of my client. That’s still true. Just as I believe that your home should reflect who you are, I believe that your jewelry should mirror your personality and your taste as well as expressing my skill and inspiration.

I use sterling silver, fine silver (more pure silver than sterling) and other metals. I support other Etsy sellers and usually buy my stones, beads, and sometimes, findings from them. I am happy to give credit where credit is due, but I don’t keep track of sources the way that I should. I am proud of what I make and it is most important that the people who own my work are proud to wear it. That’s vital to my satisfaction and pleasure in designing and fabricating "wearable metal art".

I am happy to reserve a piece for you for up to 4 weeks, but all reserves require a non-refundable .

I can make custom pieces for you alone. Send me a convo if this interests you. Please be sure that my work suits your taste before we go down the design road. Generally custom pieces cost a little more than my regular pieces because of the extra time it takes to work on them. Custom work requires a 50% non-refundable deposit.

I approach custom orders in this way: If you have an item/ idea, contact me. If I can bring your idea to fruition in a timely manner, I’ll make the piece. It helps me in the design process if I know a bit about you. Sometimes, a piece can take months before I’m happy with it. That’s sometimes too long for a customer to wait and I don’t like working under pressure. But be assured, I will finish the piece as quickly as possible.

As we work together, I will send you photos along the way as there will be choices that you will have to make. Please be aware...a custom order is designed for a specific person and I cannot accept returns on custom orders. Once the item is in process, i cannot refund deposits.

Fine print
Price quotes for custom pieces are an estimation...I try to give you a range so the final price won't be a nasty surprise... and the final price of the item depends on choices made throughout the process and time spent on the whole project.

I prefer to use cabs that I have in my collection. I have thousands of stones. I sometimes have issues with the quality of stones, but I will consider a custom order with your chosen stone from elsewhere If it is of excellent quality and from a supplier that I know.

Please ask pertinent questions....I am happy to respond and answer any concerns that you may have.

Payment
I accept payments made through Paypal or money orders. Payment is expected at the time of purchase. Payment IN FULL must be received prior to shipment of any items. If payment is not made within three days, I will cancel the order and re-list the item. However, if you can't pay for your purchase right away, let me know and I will gladly hold the item for you for a reasonable amount of time.

A customer living in the state of New York and using Paypal will automatically be charged New York State sales tax. Customers living in New York who wish to pay via Money Order, please contact me prior to purchasing any item(s) as I will have to adjust the price to include the sales tax. New York City residents have additional sales tax….unfortunately.

You do not have to have a Paypal account to pay for your order with your credit card through PayPal. Just click the payment button. It will give you the option to pay with a credit card without signing up for a PayPal account.
Shipping
All items purchased within the United States are shipped via USPS, insured Priority post. I usually ship from New Jersey on Fridays because the post offices in New York City are a nightmare…long lines etc. Also, I believe that there is less probability that things will get lost if they don’t have to pass through the New York City post offic.

If you'd prefer an alternate form of shipment (upped to USPS First class, overnight, UPS, FedEx, etc), please contact me prior to purchase and I will try to accommodate you.

Items shipped outside the United States, unless otherwise discussed with the customer, are shipped via basic first class air mail without insurance (package can be insured for an additional cost). I cannot be responsible for lost packages if they are not insured.

As for the declaration of internationally shipped items and their prices, I understand that for some countries, a fee is required in order to receive a package delivered and because of this, I have been occasionally asked if I would mark a package as a gift or declare it at a lesser value. I don’t feel comfortable doing this and I apologize if this causes any inconvenience.
Refunds and Exchanges
Buying jewelry online can be challenging because you cannot try it on or hold it. I provide size information and my photos also give an idea of how big a piece is. The weight of a piece of jewelry is something that is often overlooked. I have several beautiful pairs of earrings that I do not wear because they are so heavy. I give information where I think that this may be an issue. I understand that every monitor is different. If the item was not what you expected, I will issue an exchange or refund minus shipping fees. The item must be in its original condition, unworn and re-sellable. You must contact me within two days of receipt of the item. I must receive the item within two weeks of delivery unless special arrangements are made. Otherwise I will assume that you are happy with your purchase.

I am willing to make adjustments in work for sale, usually, at no additional cost. However, I reserve the right to refuse returns when alterations have been made.

Please contact me if you have any problem with your purchase as soon as possible.

I regretfully will no longer accept returns on special orders unless the issue has to do with craftsmanship. I DO guarantee my work. I'm happy to do repairs, when possible. Since every situation is unique, I will work with you to try to come to a mutually satisfactory resolution.

Please be sure that you order the correct size before purchase. Generally, if the ring band is thick you should buy a half size up. Commercial jewelers are usually able to make a ring a half size larger. In most instances it makes sense for you to take it to a jeweler near you, but I cannot assume responsibility if you decide to go this way. I'm dedicated to trying to make your buying experience with me a good one. Smiles all around..that is the goal.

If you receive an item and want an alteration or adjustment, there may be a small additional charge depending on the work involved. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs.

Refunds will be issued once I receive the item.

I will not assume responsibility for lost or stolen packages that have been sent uninsured.

Please contact me if you have any concerns at all. It's better for both of us for you to ask questions before you purchase. I want you to be happy. If you're not, I'm not.
