I always liked pretty things. More making them than buying.
My story started in art school specialising in ceramics, but quickly realised that the most fascinating thing about ceramic were glazes, which are powdered glass.
Two unrelated degrees later and a few bizarre jobs in between I moved onto glass beads. Dreamt about blowing massive, freeform, glass vases but then living in a tiny apartment in London brought me back to reality real quick. Glass beads were like cute little marbles and the colour variety was enormous, Especially fascinating were the reactive colours although not necessarily kind to your lungs....
I have been making glass beads for over a decade now and offering them here in my shop for nearly as long. Initially from my tiny flat, now from my tiny shed, things are definitely progressing for the better hahahaha.
Recently however ( yes, pandemic had a major influence) I realised that I needed something new to occupy my mind (and hands) with and I started making jewellery. I very much enjoy the process, have my podcast on, a cuppa and a few scattered stones ..... beautiful things are made and ugly ones too!
I still make beads but very rarely now and usually for my own jewellery.
I have several kilos of raw glass to get through so it should last me a decade at least. Might get motivated to use it faster! Who knows?
