About

Maggie Joynt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Illinois State University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She started her jewelry business after moving to the mountains of Western North Carolina. In 2006, she opened a studio and gallery space at the Riverwood Shops in Dillsboro, which she had for over six years. Maggie now works from a home-based studio in the Sandhills region of North Carolina with Duke and Finley, her canine helpers.

"I have always found beauty in unexpected places, such as the surface of the rocks outside my studio, or the frayed wings of a well-traveled butterfly. I incorporate these forms from nature into my designs, transforming them into simple and bold geometric shapes. I fabricate my jewelry using sterling silver, copper, brass, and mixed gemstones. I use many techniques including forging, soldering, roll printing, and stone setting. Texture and movement are important elements in my work. Heat-formed rivets act as hinges and lend an industrial look to my work. I create texture in my mixed metal jewelry with hand carved hammers, and by imprinting fabric, paper and other textures with a rolling mill."
