Announcement   Welcome to The Magician's Assistant! I'm ready to help add some magic to your life! Please check back often, as I am still adding new items every week. You never know what jewelry, trinkets, accessories, or costumes I'll add next. I love custom projects -- so if you don't see something you're in love with (or something that you'd be in love with in a different color), please message me and we can bring your dream to life!

Like me on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/MagiciansAsst where I post previews of new projects! I also post when I add new items -- this is the best way to find out about new goodies being listed.

In asking for an item off the beaten path of the creator's usual list, it's a good first attempt. It came with added horizontal supports that the normal chainmail tie did not, and used significantly smaller rings to make use of the small scales. The proportions are perfect, just like the normal chainmail ties offered.

I bought this as a gift for a derby sister. It was a great idea.

Just got my owl 5 minutes ago! It was made exactly how I wanted it. Thank you so much. Now my mom won't try to steal mine everytime she sees it!

About

The Lovely Assistant....

From a young age, Caroline was a crafter. Early projects involved dangly earrings out of conversation heart Valentine's candies as well as seashells. She convinced her crafty aunt and somewhat less crafty mother to teach her how to sew, knit, and crochet; what she couldn't learn from them, she learned from books, and soon enough, the internet. In college she taught herself chain mail weaving, investing in a half mile of electric fence wire from the local Agway to practice. Soon enough, she continued to graduate school, where she earned her Master's of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design and Technology and honed her various skills in fabric manipulation, crafts, and illustration.

Today, Caroline runs a prestigious college costume shop, but still crafts in her spare time. Her quandary became that she would constantly be working on projects, but never use them herself! Her loss is everyone's gain as these creations go into her shop. Often, items in the shop have been created out of leftovers from projects from her day job, meaning that these items are not only high quality (most fabrics are natural fibers and bought in NYC), but environmentally conscious. (Knit and crochet items will appear periodically in the shop -- she does both during dress rehearsals!)

The Magician's Assistant is not just her shop name, but also a role. Her husband is a professional magician, and often calls upon her expertise to create props and costumes for his shows. She has collaborated with him as well as other top professionals in the field to develop performer-friendly, high-quality props, and in some cases replicating those which are otherwise non-existent. Interested performers should contact the shop directly to discuss their needs for either unique props or costume items; she has gimmicked many a garment before, no request is too odd!

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I require payment in full before shipping. Accepted payment methods include Paypal, personal check, and money order. Please allow 7-10 days for clearance of personal checks. In the case of commissioned orders, I require a deposit (generally around 25% of the total price) to cover materials at the outset of the project. Payment of the balance of the agreed price is due before the item is shipped.
Shipping
Unless otherwise specified, I ship within 3 days of receipt of payment. Smaller items will ship USPS First Class unless otherwise requested; larger/valuable items will be shipped UPS (so that you can sign at delivery). Insurance will be added at customer's request. International sellers should please contact me directly to discuss shipping options -- if at all possible, I prefer to ship Priority Mail International (flat rate) or First Class International Parcel -- these are two of the most inexpensive options for shipping goods overseas.
Refunds and Exchanges
Refunds will be issued only if an item is grossly misrepresented in a listing. I try to include comprehensive measurements and clear pictures of all of my items; please be sure before you commit to purchase. Commissioned items, as they are made to specific measurements and requests, cannot be refunded for any reason (I will, however, work with any customer to ensure that a commission does not result in dissatisfaction.)
