Welcome to The Magician's Assistant! I'm ready to help add some magic to your life! Please check back often, as I am still adding new items every week. You never know what jewelry, trinkets, accessories, or costumes I'll add next. I love custom projects -- so if you don't see something you're in love with (or something that you'd be in love with in a different color), please message me and we can bring your dream to life!

Like me on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/MagiciansAsst where I post previews of new projects! I also post when I add new items -- this is the best way to find out about new goodies being listed.

I do lots of custom costume work that is not listed here. To see examples of my work, visit http://www.carolineslaporta.com/costumes. If you have an idea for a costume (or something else that you don't see here), please contact me!

The Lovely Assistant....

From a young age, Caroline was a crafter. Early projects involved dangly earrings out of conversation heart Valentine's candies as well as seashells. She convinced her crafty aunt and somewhat less crafty mother to teach her how to sew, knit, and crochet; what she couldn't learn from them, she learned from books, and soon enough, the internet. In college she taught herself chain mail weaving, investing in a half mile of electric fence wire from the local Agway to practice. Soon enough, she continued to graduate school, where she earned her Master's of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design and Technology and honed her various skills in fabric manipulation, crafts, and illustration.

Today, Caroline is a freelance costumer in NYC, where she has worked for various off Broadway and regional theatres, the Radio City Rockettes and NYC Ballet, and periodically television commercials, in addition to custom costume and cosplay projects for various clients.

The Magician's Assistant is not just her shop name, but also a role. Her husband is a professional magician, and often calls upon her expertise to create props and costumes for his shows. She has collaborated with him as well as other top professionals in the field to develop performer-friendly, high-quality props, and in some cases replicating those which are otherwise non-existent. Interested performers should contact the shop directly to discuss their needs for either unique props or costume items; she has gimmicked many a garment before, no request is too odd!

Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
Refunds will be issued only if an item is grossly misrepresented in a listing. I try to include comprehensive measurements and clear pictures of all of my items; please be sure before you commit to purchase. Commissioned items, as they are made to specific measurements and requests, cannot be refunded for any reason (I will, however, work with any customer to ensure that a commission does not result in dissatisfaction.)
Payment
I require payment in full before shipping. Accepted payment methods include Paypal, personal check, and money order. Please allow 7-10 days for clearance of personal checks. In the case of commissioned orders, I require a deposit (generally around 25% of the total price) to cover materials at the outset of the project. Payment of the balance of the agreed price is due before the item is shipped.
Shipping
Unless otherwise specified, I ship within 3 days of receipt of payment. Smaller items will ship USPS First Class unless otherwise requested; larger/valuable items will be shipped UPS (so that you can sign at delivery). Insurance will be added at customer's request. International sellers should please contact me directly to discuss shipping options -- if at all possible, I prefer to ship Priority Mail International (flat rate) or First Class International Parcel -- these are two of the most inexpensive options for shipping goods overseas.
