About

What's in a name?

When my only daughter married and had two sweet little boys, I knew that I had to start parting with all those girly things I saved from when she was young. Since I already had a handmade shop on etsy, and the vintage section had just been added, it made sense to start there. The name "mailbox vintage" came to me as I was sorting through the more than 100 cards and letters my dad, a mailman, (aka "Lynchie") saved from our correspondence over the years, since we lived miles apart. To know that he treasured them as much as we treasured him just made me smile. So, I just named the shop after him...treasures from our mailbox to yours. And of course, it gives me an excuse to keep searching for more great vintage!

The third daughter of 11 children, I run the shop but he is my inspiration, along with my mom, still thriving, who taught all of us to see potential in everything, and for that matter, everyone. When "Lynchie" saw people tossing out good old stuff on his mail route, he and mom rescued it and restored it to its original beauty for our humble home. We grew up learning to plant from seed, turn fabric scraps into quilts, refinish furniture, bake from scratch and do most anything "the old-fashioned way". Whenever we siblings get together even now, the conversation inevitably includes tales of our latest finds...whether "trash picked" or discovered at a thrift shop or tag sale..and what we did with them. We all have some of those original Lynchie trash-picked treasures in our homes today, and that innate desire to discover and create more lives on.

Here's to happy hunting for years to come!

Third daughter, and like my dad, Lynchie, I love old things and the thrill of the hunt. Tag sales, thrift stores, side of the road... you name it. I especially enjoy matching them up with their new owners who do the virtual hunt on Etsy.

    Inspiration

My dad was a mailman, and providing a warm home for my mom and eleven of us kids on that salary required creativity and frugality. He accomplished both by bringing home treasures from his route that others left at the curb.

Returns and exchange details
We try to photograph and describe our finds as accurately as possible so you will know what you're buying. As with all things vintage, nothing in this shop is perfect so expect some wear and tear consistent with age. Anything more significant will be noted in the item description. No returns or refunds. We also do not clean things up much as some people prefer to do that themselves...or not!
Payment
We accept paypal and credit cards via direct checkout. All orders shipped to NC addresses will incur sales tax....sorry, not my idea.
Shipping
We use calculated shipping on most items so entering your zip will provide the cost to ship. Items normally ship within 1-2 days and will be carefully packed for safety. Most packages will go USPS Priority Mail (1-3 days) which includes insurance, but larger packages will be shipped Parcel Select (2-9 days). Lighter items (16 ounces or less) will ship First Class, uninsured, unless you ask us to add this coverage before you purchase. Please let me know so I can calculate it and add the cost to your total price.

Rates for USPS just went up again in January 2019. Etsy also now takes an (unfair) 5% cut of shipping as well.
Additional policies and FAQs
Now offering *FREE* gift wrapping...just ask! You will have to take potluck on paper and ribbons on hand, but we love wrapping gifts and promise to make it special. We will also include a gift note with your instructions...just let us know what to say. We try to be fair on value and prices are firm. No "OBO" here. If something doesn't sell, we may drop the price before renewing the listing but otherwise we do not discount or negotiate. USPS rates went up again in January 2019, plus there is now a 5% surcharge on shipping by Etsy.
