Great transaction and shipping was fine. I am very happy with the buttons which I put on an ear warmer.

About

Buttoned up in serendipity!

Two years ago, as a Maine islander who is also a potter and a knitter, I wished to make a Maine-themed sweater for my new grandson who was expected to be born and start his childhood in Ohio. In the nation's heartland, all things Maine are exotic, so I thought it would be a novelty for my little boy to have a sweater modeled on an adult outdoorsman's sweater – complete with lobster-design buttons made by me. The sweater – and particularly the buttons – were such a hit that I was inspired to make more buttons. In fact, I enjoyed the process of fashioning each one out of stoneware or porcelain clay so much that I soon had dozens of completely hand-fashioned, original buttons. Taking some to a knitting store to select yarn for a new knitting project, I was utterly delighted when the shop owner invited me to show her my button output. She became my first wholesale customer. Now I also sell wholesale to several knitting stores and retail directly online, to individual customers and designers, and at crafts fairs. I feel serendipity is responsible for my button business, because I had not thought of my work as anything but useful for my own projects and then discovered that they do have commercial appeal, particularly to those who appreciate handmade work and wish to use it to enhance their own projects.

My buttons are made of stoneware and porcelain and feature non-toxic, lead-free glazes. They are professionally fired twice in a high-fire gas kiln. Handwashing and air drying are recommended.
