A Vintage Love Affair

I'll admit it: I'm hopelessly nostalgic. While I confess I do appreciate many of the conveniences of our modern world, the things I value most are those objects and experiences which require individual attention, imagination, hands-on skill, and an investment of time and love to bring to fruition. The soul of a thing is what interests and excites me most - the depths and nuances imparted via an object travelling through time and history, or through the personal, loving attention of a craftsperson, artist, musician, gardener, potter, home-maker or cook. That yen of mine for detail, quality and individuality inevitably leads me to surrounding myself with vintage items and handmade objects in my own home: I'm firmly committed to up-cycling, re-cycling and re-using wherever possible.

However, beyond the personal political commitment, it's the charm of vintage furniture, fabric and clothing that appeals to me, along with the opportunity to re-imagine an item from an earlier time in a new setting and in a new way. I've been doing this for years with vintage clothing for my own personal use; a passion which grew, organically, into my small, home-based vintage reproduction fashion business, Maisy Brown Repro Retro.

If you've come across my shop before you may wonder why I closed my store for a year. After several years of fits and starts with the business I realized I needed to acquire the business and management skills I sorely lacked and which I could tell were holding me back. After time off for study and re-grouping, I've re-opened my store. Along with my High Waist Fishtail Wiggle Skirt, I'll be offering pencil skirts, bombshell dresses, sundresses and sunsuits in a selection of vintage-inspired fabrics, all made to order to ensure best fit for all variety of shapes and sizes.

Some of my cotton bridesmaid dresses were recently featured in the magazine The Vintage and Handmade Bride, a great guide to the new 'vintage' style of weddings. Available in newsagents Australia-wide.

Hi! The garments I make are special to me, and I hope they'll be special to you, the buyer. Many are one of a kind (OOAK); many are made from vintage fabric and haberdashery; all will be made with a great deal of care, attention to detail, and the skill I've developed from having sewn all my life since I was a little girl. I often use traditional techniques, like French seams, hand-stitching and faced hems, combined with modern sewing and serging techniques; always ensuring longevity of your garment.

Accepted payment methods

Returns and exchanges
I will not exchange items, due to the high cost of international insured shipping (domestic sales, please convo).
If there's a problem with your garment I will do my utmost to rectify it if I am somehow at fault (I will replace or refund a garment which I have sent out in the wrong size); however, I won't automatically refund or exchange if you mistakenly purchase the incorrect size or provide incorrect measurements.

If you'd like to return your item, I will accept a return and refund the cost of the item only - not the postage charge (I can't afford to subsidize you buying and trying a garment). In order to avoid fraud I will only refund the cost of the garment (less postage) after I receive the returned item.

If your item gets lost or damaged in transit I will handle the paperwork to ensure compensation, but you MUST keep all original wrappings and packaging so we can make our case to the postal services (that means, don't throw anything out! And take photos of the condition in which it arrived).
Cancellation of a custom order more than 3 days after purchase will result in forfeit of your deposit.
I accept Paypal ONLY from international buyers (I'm in Australia, so please, no international money orders or cheques). Australian buyers may also pay via Bank Deposit, EFT or Money Order (contact me for details).
IMPORTANT: PLEASE GO THROUGH THE PAYPAL VERIFICATION PROCESS. This is an added security measure that confirms the buyer is the true owner of the bank account or credit card being used, thus preventing fraud, such as identity theft, and increasing the security of PP payments.

I'm very open to reserving an item, or even lay-away, so please convo me to arrange this. Lay-away (or lay-by) usually requires 30% deposit of total, with the rest to be paid within 6-8 weeks (negotiable). Cancellation of lay-by will be refunded in full minus 20% restocking fee. If 6 weeks have passed and I am unable to retrieve my PP fees those incurred fees will be subtracted from the refund.

At this stage I am not collecting or paying GST.
Shipping within Australia will be via Express Post, as it's so fast and reliable and provides a tracking number.
International shipping is via registered post (International Registered Post includes tracking number and a signature is required on delivery).
These shipping options allow me to trace your item if it goes astray, or make a claim if it's damaged in transit.
I'll convo you with your tracking number once your item has been mailed. If your item does get damaged, please keep all the wrapping as it comes to you, so we may provide it as evidence; taking photos of your damaged parcel (before opening if possible) is also helpful.
Any inadvertent over-charging for postage over $2 will always be refunded after mailing your article.

ASIA-PACIFIC BUYERS: As there is no catch-all category for the Asia-Pacific region, please convo me so I may add your destination. Shipping cost will be the same as shown for Japan.

Rest Of WORLD: Please convo me to verify shipping costs and to add your destination.

SHIPPING TIMES: International postage takes between 5-21 days (the average is somewhere in-between). Items must pass through customs processing at both ends.
In Australia, Express post will arrive within 24 hours, or 48-36 hrs if you are off the city grid.

INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS UPGRADE: is available. Please convo for rates.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please convo me if you are interested in collaborating on a customized order of any of my designs. Extra fees are involved for customization/modification of garment designs - to be negotiated.

CUSTOM ORDER DISCLAIMER: I love custom orders! If you look at my feedback, you'll see that my number one priority is to get your fit right so you get the most from your special garment. To that end, I provide detailed guidance/instructions and/or diagrams to assist you measure correctly. If you are purchasing a garment for someone else (eg a bridesmaid or girlfriend) it's up to you to ensure these instructions are followed. However, fitting long-distance can be tricky, not least because I'm relying on you, the customer, to provide me with accurate measurements. Therefore, while I'll do my utmost to ensure best fit, it is possible that your garment might need tweaking once it's arrived by a local dressmaker or alterations/repair person, for which I am not responsible. To aid me, I ask you provide me with a clear, full-length photo of yourself (I won't share it), and also to keep the list of measurements I ask for in the same numerical order (best to C&P), and to measure twice without adding or subtracting anything from what the tape shows. Do NOT convert from cm's to inches or vice versa, please.

The zippers I use are of the highest quality and guaranteed for life, however, I do not manufacture them, so cannot be held responsible for their failure, particularly if they are ill-treated by the wearer.
I provide care instructions for all garments - please follow these!

Finally, I love to make feminine, flirty garments which I hope will enhance both the everyday and the special events in my clients' lives; all of my garments will be small editions, hand-made and made-to-order, and thus as unique as you are!
