About MajestyIndustries

On Etsy since 2006

It's all about the places we go and things we do.

I started Majesty Industries in 2004 and quit my day job soon after. It's an amazing thing to be a full time artist and be able to design and make whatever I want to make. I travel to craft shows and farmers market and do a bit of wholesale to stores in Western Canada.

I have a B.A in Intercultural Studies because I love to travel and meet new people and experience other cultures. Some of the places I have travelled were for my degree, and some were places on my Bucket List. That list is important to me because this world is so big and there are so many things out there... I feel like all of my dreams should come true and there's nothing wrong with that!

I have backpacked across the whole country of Ireland and Northern Ireland and parts of Europe. Kissed the Blarney Stone, walked along the cliffs of Moher, jogged along the river Liffy. Spent a day walking along the walls of Derry and the mysterious geometric hexagons at the Giants Causeway. Edinburgh is a magical place and I wish I could live there, in the country that calls the Unicorn it's national animal. The Scottish Highlands stole my urban heart, and I dipped my feet into the Loch Ness. Berlin, Frankfurt, Dortmund, Essen, Cologne and Dusseldorf are my footprint across Germany. Visiting the Berlin wall brought me back to 1987 when I saw it come down on T.V. Visiting the Mona Lisa made me cry even before I entered the Louvre in Paris and the Salvador Dali Musee is my personal Disneyland. My ancestors came from Czechoslovakia so there I went as well.

I have taught english lessons all over China and walked 10km on the Great Wall. Visited Mao and ate the best cuisine outside the Forbidden City in Beijing. In the Philippines I made friends at an orphanage on top of a mountain in Banaue. Hiked along the stacked rice terraces that claim the 8th wonder of the world. In Cambodia I taught english lessons in a village outside Phnom Penh. The not-so-far-in-the-past-history of the Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum were absolutely chilling. Thailand was a second home to me for awhile... I had that map of Bangkok memorized. The trip to Mae Sot to teach english taught me about refugees, people with no home, no status, no country and no passports. Of course India was the most colourful trip of them all. Life in abundance is bursting out from every corner loudly in Kolkata. I cried a little visiting Mother Teresa's home.

North America is my home, but I have seen so little of it. I have been to the most Western edge and the most Eastern edge of B.C and Newfoundland. The middle is a little fuzzy but I have seen the Gopher Museum in Torrington and the Ship in Vulcan Alberta. Los Angeles has the best fabric markets and New York has the best everything else... living in Brooklyn is like living no where else. The shopping, the food, the noise the quiet, the parks, the trains, the culture, the art... and a trip on the famous ferris wheel on Coney Island make my heart happy and homesick.

I absolutely LOVE hearing about where my clients are going and where they have been. Many times I have taken their advice and travelled to a hotel they recommend or an area of a city.... thank you everyone for recommending the Road to Hana in Maui, it was amazing. If you see me, tell me where to go next!

I have a studio in North Edmonton where we make everything. The fabric comes on bolts, and then we cut. After we cut, we silkscreen. And when we silkscreen on vinyl, you bet we use the best vinyl ink possible and wear a gas mask. Then it's time to sew. We use all industrial sewing machines and industrial thread. It's quite the process, and often the prep work goes on forever and then all of a sudden.... the studio is FULL of new things! When I say "we" that's me and my intern when she's not off travelling herself. The studio isn't that big.

I use only Vegan materials because I love animals. I would hate to know that my craft caused the death of even one of them. It is also difficult for to find interesting Vegan accessories so that's where I fit in. Vegan Travel Accessories. That's about it.
