About me and a guide to purchasing & turning

BUYERS GUIDE

I always try to offer unique items & blanks that you may not find elsewhere.
All my wood is hand selected from various wood dealers and every piece is QC checked by myself.
All resin castings are done my myself and all hybrid castings contain fully stabilised wood for peace of mind.
I'm not the cheapest but quality sometimes comes at a price and you really do get what you pay for!

Pricing Guide - BLANKS ONLY

Grade 1 - Un-stabilised ready to turn £1.00 + per blank
Grade 2 - Stabilised or un-stabilised £2.50 + per blank
Grade 3 - Stabilised rare/special wood £3.50 + per blank
Resin Only - High quality Alumilite resin £7.00 + per blank
Hybrid Resin / Wood £9.00 + per blank

Stabilisation is a process that involves placing the wood under vacuum and infusing the
wood with resin. This process makes the blanks harder and makes some woods turnable
that wouldn't be normally such as soft spalted timber or burrs.
This also gives you peace of mind when turning blanks thin when turning.
Stabilising is time consuming, specialised and can take sometimes up to a week to complete.

TURNING GUIDE

When turning blanks don't rush especially with hybrid blanks. The transition between
resin and wood on the blank needs great care as both materials cut differently.
I take great care in casting hybrid blanks to make them as easy to turn as possible.
All hybrid wood is stabilised under vacuum then cast under pressure to remove
air bubbles but wood is a natural material so small voids may still be present so some
CA glue work maybe needed.

I'm always available to ask questions and advise if needed, just drop me a message,

Happy Turning!
Phil
