I am the daughter of a Dutch immigrant, and my mother and grandmother began teaching me crafts as soon as my hands were big enough, and I could say,"Show me how!"
My fascination with soap allows me to combine design, color, fragrance, and fun , all at once. Soap is a useful item that is also indulgent. Wow! It can't get better than that. Please join me in enjoying what I am making.
I am very proud to state that The Handmade Soap Makers and Cosmetic Makers Guild, a national group, selected a Mamoucha Soap to illustrate the back page of one of their past "Why Handcrafted Soap?" pamphlet.
I grew up in Philadelphia, PA but have transplanted to Conway, South Carolina, where I look for alligators all the time. Ain't seen one yet.

The Fine Art of Clean and what is Mamoucha?
My friend, Sharyn Pak, of "On Air Video" makes Craft, and Art videos, and after I sat down to watch her Soap Making video, I was bitten! Eventually I started to sell my soap to fund my habit. In 2012 I made over 13,000 soaps for Anthropologie's Holiday Collection, and that allowed me to build a real studio in my basement. I have a lot of fun there. I trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and adore color and wielding it in my soap designs.
Mamoucha is a huge corruption of Mom, which my best and only daughter started calling me when she was a teenager. Now she is a principle at Strawberryluna, also on etsy. My husband Clay Johnson is a accomplished landscape painter, so we have all the inspiration in the world.

I am lucky enough to be on my 4th successful career. Handcrafted soap making allows me to marry to other 3: Art, Science, and Psychology, to make a gorgeous product. I adore color, graphic design, fun, and my sense of smell. Voila! Soap does it all.
Shop policies
I find joy in many everyday things, including a blue sky, a nice aroma, a forest, a good looking stone, and color in gene ral. Sometimes I create a soap and when it is done, I realize that the inspiration for it came from my life experience, and travels. This looks like goldstone, that looks like cinnabar, this has the storybook feel of Amsterdam, and that looks like the red silk scarf in Paris. Best of all, when ever I wash my hands, or take a shower, I can feel very pampered with a relatively small investment.
My customers tell me that their children and teenagers love my soaps, use them up, and ask when they are getting more. Customers tell me that they no longer have to remind their children to wash their hands. You will get cleaner kids!
One last thing...what is mica? I found a good description at Lamps USA.com." Thin layers of mineral which when fused together, create a translucent shade material which emits a warm glow. Mica is used in its natural color or is often dyed...." Mica forms by compressing quartz bearing sand, and my house is made of mica schist: a gray stone that sparkles like crazy. It is much of the bedrock where I live.
