Drawing at the front garden
Colors and textures!
Ever since my childhood, I was constantly creating. Knitting, crocheting, drawing, painting t-shirts. During my years at the university, they used to call me the Knitting Queen.Because I couldn't stop knitting even during the lectures! I attended Fashion Institute of Technology and got a BA degree on Fashion Design with knitwear specialization.
I always had in mind to start my own business.I started drawing my logo during first years of college, and started selling my designs at small boutiques. Little by little the idea ripened and Mandalinarossa was created.
I work spontaneously directly with the material ( fabric or yarn). The idea comes and I make it right away. I have a studio with a sewing machine, an overlock and a knitting machine.
I like working alone and having control over all aspects of my business.
I knit,sew,crochet,make patterns,make vector drawings for prints,take photographs.
For a few years I was a part of a workshop space Zelazo(zelazolab.tumblr.com),named after a character in a book(Jeremy Leven's Satan: His Psychotherapy and Cure by the Unfortunate Dr. Kassler). We gave various workshops including practical sewing to keep people away from conspicuous consumption, soapmaking, pinhole camera making, linocut printing and all sorts of other fun stuff .
Recently, as I adopted a semi-nomadic lifestyle, I learned the ancient craft of backstrap weaving. It's practiced all around the world, mainly by nomadic tribes. It's a slow and meditative process which I love!
I'm an advocate of sustainable living and I try to make most of my daily needs myself. For this reason I taught sewing classes to many people so everyone can make their own clothes.
As an extension to this idea I'm creating pdf sewing tutorials as well as youtube videos on practical living skills.
I hope you'll enjoy my work.
