Magic Handmade in California
My whole life I've been falling ever more in love with butterflies and fashion. Both butterflies and the fashion we wear tell stories of transformation, survival, self-expression, and growth. As an artist/designer, a business owner, and an empath I feel it is my duty to connect humanity with the forgotten beauty of the natural world and instill a greater sense of love and self-worth to anyone who wears my pieces. My ultimate hope and dream, when someone wears my pieces, is that they feel a little more confident on that date, a little more magical during a hard time, a little more joyous on those first days of school, work, therapy, and adventure. I hope you feel just a little bit more like your best self.
-INTENTIONAL ART-
Mindfulness is a big part of my mental creative process. As I make each piece I imagine all the things I hope the wearer will experience in it be it love, protection, celebration, hope, peace, joy, pleasure, empowerment, connection, or support through a challenging time. I craft each piece with affirmations, intentions, and love and share those sentiments with you, the customer, with handwritten intention cards and thank you letters. I feel everything I make is a manifestation of the energy I give to it.
-SUSTAINABILITY & PHILANTHROPY-
A commitment to sustainability, ethics, philanthropy, and transparency is the foundation I hope to build the success of Mangled Monarch Atelier from. As a black, queer, and gender expansive person my biggest dream is to use my art to support diverse communities and allow their stories to be uplifted, affirmed, and celebrated. Making sure the world of Mangled Monarch Atelier is a safe space that is inclusive and sustainably minded is the highest priority. I strive to create philanthropic collections where 100% of the profits goes to a relevant cause, organization, or individual. A full transparent donation record will be included with each collection on the Mangled Monarch website and shared on social media platforms.
Mangled Monarch Atelier will be a brand that strives for ethical, low waste, circular, and upcycled design. 90% of the materials used to create these pieces are upcycled. The butterflies are sourced ethically and are allowed to live out their entire natural life cycles before beginning their second life as wearable art. All leather is salvaged and diverted from landfill and sourced from textile recycling services and the garment district of NYC which is local to this business. This brand will also never use specimens that are protected by the endangered species act nor will this brand use specimens considered "rare", "exotic", or "collectible". Mangled Monarch packaging is always salvaged, recyclable, or compostable. To learn more about the sustainability missions, ethics, and material sourcing please visit the brand's website to view the "Transparency Records".
-ABOUT ME-
In lore, butterflies are sacred symbols of transformation and transcendence. Mangled Monarch Atelier is my commitment to clothe you in wearable art that honors our metamorphic souls. I hope you'll be inspired to believe in magic. #magichandmade
This brand was born because the 2020 pandemic changed my direction in life. With so much loss, I realized that the skills and education I had acquired in the world of entertainment doing costume, fashion, and special effects makeup in NYC could be applied in a way that allowed me to more directly serve others and facilitate a metamorphosis in the world. I hope the things I make live a full life with you and give you a reason to connect more with yourself and others. I'm so happy that I arrived here and that I can make something with all the love, joy, and intention I have to give and share it with you. Thank you for supporting me as a black and queer business owner. Please don't hesitate to reach out via Etsy messages or the brand's website should you ever have any questions or concerns.
