About

Creating unique ceramic pieces for everyday use.

I discovered my passion for clay late in life. At age 40 I started going back to school with my mind set of becoming a painter. Then I took a ceramic class and was immediately captivated by this medium. The meditative process of shaping clay and creating pieces that can be used everyday is the most appealing part. But there is also the challenge of making a piece work and the daring nature of clay itself. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at age 46, I decided to make a career out of this passion and opened an ETSY shop. What I love most about ETSY is the possibility to reach a world wide audience and finding a loving home for my items by people who appreciate the time and work that goes into creating these unique pieces.

A lot of my inspiration is influenced by my upbringing: Growing up in the Black Forrest region of Germany, I was early on exposed to native folk art. Here an industry of wood workers, glass blowers, textile designers and ceramicists are creating items that are exceptional as well as used in everyday life for cooking, eating, decorating etc. My concept is strongly affected by nature, the human impact on natural resources and environment as well as observing different cultures on my travels all over the world. Visual elements on my cups, bowls and plates often illustrate this concern in subtle manner. Every piece I create contains a piece of myself, a thought, a fingerprint, a moment of my life and in return, each piece has its own individuality, making it a truly one-of-a-kind item.

In becoming a ceramic artist, I had to learn early on how to let go, since so many factors influence the success of a ceramic piece and when I open the kiln after a firing session, there is always a piece or two that won't make the cut. I have learned to accept that I can only influence an item's perfectness up to a certain point and that small flaws just enhance the sensation of a unique piece. Hundreds of hours of work, experimentation and frustration pay off when I make someone else's day more enjoyable with a unique ceramic piece.
Thank you for visiting my shop. I hope you come back often to explore new items.

Additional policies and FAQs
Please remember that every piece is created by me and 100% handmade. Each item is unique and has it's own individuality; no mass-reproduction in my studio. If you buy one of my items, you get a truly one-of-a-kind work of functional art.

Due to the nature of handmade ceramic and glaze, small imperfections will occur, adding to the distinctive appearance.

It takes a lot of time and material to make a ceramic piece. Therefore, custom orders have to be paid before I can start working on them.
