Stylish and spirited handbags, clutches and purses, with a sideline of little pincushions, just for fun!

Here's a bit about my journey so far.
I was born in south western Queensland, into a family that is generously sprinkled with women who will try their hand at anything. My mother and grandmother, skilled craftswomen, taught me their inside tips and traditional techniques. Being ‘farmed out’ during school holidays was a retreat and a chance to reconnect with nature. I hope I bring a taste of this Australian experience to what I make.

Somehow, without really trying (well actually I was trying), I ended up with a mountain of beautiful fabrics, which was fine for me but taking over the house! In a light bulb moment their future as unique handbags and purses appeared…and so began the maplemist journey.

So I’ve been designing and making handbags and purses now for five years and loving every moment. The dance between colour, pattern, shape and texture constantly inspires me. I’m especially drawn to natural materials: linen, cotton, silk and wool.

I always start with the fabric and the mood it evokes. I picture it being used and touched. From this flows the shape, function, how it’s detailed and embellished and what other fabrics it’s combined with. That magic moment when the bag finally emerges from its inside-out cocoon....

You’ll often find me checking out op shops for fabrics and trimmings. Tucked away in a small corner I’ll find half-finished projects, small pieces carefully cut by gentle hands. I take a moment to imagine the woman who had plans for this fabric. What was her story? Who was she making it for? I will never know, yet I do know she was motivated by love. To me it’s a kind of honour to bring the pieces to life and in a way to carry on the story. Such unexpected inspiration from unfinished business.

I love spending creative time at beautiful Mapleton on the Sunshine Coast, where I am surrounded by birdsong, the special light and stillness. Hence the name ‘maplemist’.

From my hands to yours - I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them. 🍁🍁🍁

Postage will be more if tracking, Express, Registered or Insured Post is requested.

How long will it take to arrive?
To Australian destinations, depending on your location, it will take a maximum of 7 working days to arrive by regular mail. If you are in a capital city, it will be much quicker, sometimes only 3 to 4 working days.

To international destinations, it's very hard to estimate how long it will take, and this will also depend on holidays or other weather or service disruptions at either end or in transit. For the US and UK, I have found a good guide is to work off at least 12-15 working days.

In the event that your customs authorities charge duties or fees, you as the customer will be responsible for paying these.
