Announcement   TURNAROUND TIME FOR SHIPPING is two weeks. This is because I make each batik towel, napkin, scarf, table runner, tablecloth or yardage piece in my studio in Bellingham, Washington. My linens are made using the traditional hot wax method to make the patterns. Each piece is then dyed in a small vat, soaked and set for at least 48 hours. Each piece is then boiled to remove all of the batik wax. Your fabric arrives pre washed and ironed: ready to enjoy or use in your own projects.

About

traditionally handcrafted batik fabrics designed to beautify everyday life

I started this work years ago, in my tiny student housing kitchen. At the time, I was an MFA graduate student trying to earn extra money for paper and ink. The idea to dye floursack towels came to me as I continually failed to keep my beautiful towels white and nice to use. Printing and dyeing the fabrics seemed like the perfect way to keep these hard working tools looking nice in the process.

What began in the kitchen on weekends became full time work after I finished school and worked to maintain an active studio schedule. I continue to make prints, drawings and installations to show in galleries, museums and conferences. My line of functional batik tableware keeps my fine art studio alive.

Useful tools and elegant fabrics are some of the nice things in life that make ordinary tasks more appealing. I hope you find something to beautify your everyday life!

united states orders that weigh more than 13 ounces are shipped via priority mail.

international orders are shipped via first class international mail.

my shipping costs do not include insurance fees. i am happy to purchase and add insurance to your shipment. contact me to be billed and informed of shipping insurance options.

my batiks arrive wrapped neatly in tissue along with business cards and care tags. i don't include an invoice. if you would like to have a paper version of your receipt sent along with your order, however, i am glad to send one. just convo or add that info in the notes to seller section of the checkout.

if you need expedited services, alternate shipping methods or insurance, please contact me before paying so that i can send you an adjusted invoice.
Refunds and Exchanges
i want you to be happy with your handcrafted batiks. if there is a defect in the product or if it arrives damaged, please contact me and we will work out a solution immediately. please contact me within 2 business days of receiving your order if you need to refund or exchange your items.

i am happy to exchange your purchase of in stock items for equal value items in my shop for any reason.

refunds for in stock items are subject to a 20% restocking fee. this fee will be deducted from your original purchase price. the customer pays return shipping and tracking costs. the restocking fee compensates me for the lost opportunity to sell the item in question to another customer, relisting time and fees, and re laundering and pressing.

custom order returns are subject to a 50% restocking fee. this is due to the fact that many custom orders are made to unique specifications and may not be resealable in a timely manner to other customers. the 50% fee covers my materials and basic studio costs so that i can afford to continue my business and studio work while maintaining affordable prices.

purchasing hand crafted items online does pose some challenge. exact color cannot be guaranteed, as each monitor will display color differently. please be aware that in person color may be different from how it looks on your screen. also, please note that dye and print irregularities are not considered defects but rather inherent characteristics of individually hand dyed items.

refunds will be issued via paypal, minus the shipping costs and restocking fees within two days of me receiving the returned item(s) in good condition. as per paypal's policies, the pieces need to be delivered to me within 60 days from the date of purchase in order for me to issue a paypal refund.
Additional policies and FAQs
please read my custom order policy below before placing a custom order:

you may choose pattern, product and color combinations from my shop to your specifications. please peruse my sold items as well as the items i have in stock in order to see all of the patterns and colors i have available. please feel free to contact me if you have questions about placing your custom order.

please note that when i create a custom item, i am making something just for you. while i will work closely with you to determine what you would like, each item i make is unique and will not be identical to anything i've made in the past. even time-tested dyebath recipes will produce unique results every time, because of the many variables involved in hand dyeing diverse fabrics in small batches. i do not dye bolts of fabrics at once, but at maxiumum 2 yards length at once. exact measurements for custom pieces can vary up to 2." this is because each piece of fabric is boiled, thereby changing its exact dimensions, and also because there are small variables possible when hemming pieces in my home studio.

before placing your custom order, please be aware that you must be flexible with exact color results. if you prefer a color that leans to the darker or to the lighter versions, or towards a certain hue within a dye recipe of a color i offer, please mention it when you place your order.

when you are ready to place your custom order, i will set up a custom listing for you that will include estimated shipping costs. the listing is for the full price of the order, unless we work out a different deal. for very large orders, i can accommodate payment plans.

i begin working on custom orders in the order they are placed. busy times of the year, around the gift giving holidays, for example, i may have a very long que of custom orders. please let me know if you have a hard deadline for receiving your order. the batik process is quite lengthy and involved. i can sometimes accommodate rush orders. most custom orders take at least 2 weeks to complete.

and, finally, please note: custom order returns are subject to a 50% restocking fee. this is due to the fact that many custom orders are made to your unique specifications and may not be resealable in a timely manner to other customers. the 50% fee covers my materials costs and basic studio costs so that i can afford to continue my business and studio work while maintaining reasonable retail prices. thank you for understanding.
