About

Island. Fragments.

My family come from three small islands in Greece: Corfu, Kythera and Ithaca. These three islands are part of seven in total which make up the Ionian collective. For four years, I lived and travelled around these islands and many others of the Cycladic group, working and living to understand my heritage and research island life. These experiences made me aware of the nuances of island life, each a unique personality formed in isolation and remoteness over time; geographically and culturally. Last year I re-located to Tasmania. Again, realizing an almost undefinable affection for island-ness.

These works are an outcome of a residency on Flinders Island and King Island, both situate across across the Bass Strait to the mainland from Tasmania. My process of exploration of islands is quite specific to the shoreline; Tasmania’s edges in particular offer a collecting ground of potential. Objects that I am attracted to through their textures and inherit meaning, their secret narratives potential agency when they enter my studio.

I recently relocated to Norway, where I continue to develop a new fragment collection from Norway and Iceland.
