Both my babies are giants (9, and 7 and and about 45Lbs at their lightest) and I swear to you from time to time the 45-pounder still asks to be carried liked a baby (mostly for fun). So. Out comes the pouch sling (which basically only fits just her butt now) and I piggy back her around in it. Long story short - its the only *baby* accessory that has literally lasted me TEN (10!!!) years.
My kids are 5 (48Lbs) and 3 (29Lbs) and I still wear the little one around! Because she loves it and so do I!
I began wearing my son when he was about 14 weeks old. He's over a year, and over 25 pounds now. My only regret, why didn't I get the sling sooner!
Rhetoric aside, the reason I didn't get one sooner was cost. $50 or more seemed really expensive to me for a piece of fabric. I wasn't sure how to make one myself, but knew that it couldn't be that hard. So I bought one, measured it at every angle, and decided to sew my own.
One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had a couple, and was making them for friends as well. I really enjoy sewing, and find the repetition of sling sewing quite relaxing.
I believe whole-heartedly that everyone who needs or wants a sling should be able to have one regardless of their economic status. Baby wearing isn’t just about the convenience of being hands-free. I believe that it truly does benefit both caregiver and child in a lot of ways.
Because I live in such a large and widely segregated community I found it very difficult to track down a person to teach me how to use a sling. So, if you’re local, I would love to spend even a little bit of time to help you learn to use your sling as well. Regardless of whether or not you buy one from me.
