Announcement   Welcome to CJ Hats! I started making chemo hats in 2001. I had recently completed treatment for inflammatory breast cancer. After a year of being bald and undergoing chemo, radiation, and surgery, I used that experience to create a line of hats that real women in treatment could affordably wear with pride and comfort.

CJ Hats is a true family affair. My daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jeremy have provided the working capital we've needed. My husband, Ron, is in charge of all shipping duties. My daughter, Christine, joined the business several years ago. She brought a fantastic sense of color and style, and her sewing expertise, to our line. Her contributions have been especially appealing to our younger customers. Today we make hats for everyone....for women in chemo, and for lots of other women, too. Need a yoga hat? A beach hat? A hat for alopecia...or a hair cover for religious practices? I think you'll find what you need on our site. Our hats are handmade in the USA, in a smoke free home, using brand new, first quality fabrics. We'll gladly custom size all hats upon request..

We can make any of our hats in kid's sizes...and we've also added a kid's category to our line.

Why did I create CJ Hats?

Was it because I love being able to express my creativity? Or perhaps I wanted to provide women undergoing treatment with an alternative to the expensive, frumpy hats sold in most retail stores? Could it be that I need to earn money??? Why, yes, to all three questions. So please buy a hat. You'll be doing both of us a service, and no one will appreciate your business more than me.

Were you in treatment?

Yes, in 2000 I was diagnosed with Stage IIIB inflammatory breast cancer. My knowledge of chemo hats is first hand - I wore them for a year when I was in treatment.

What makes your hats better than anyone else's?

This is a fake question…no one has ever asked me this. I made it up so that I could "sell" my product. Here's my answer…I really do know how it feels to be bald. I know that when I was bald, my number one priority in a hat was full coverage and security. I didn't want it to fall off - ever! I wanted hats that were as comfortable as possible. I wanted hats that I could actually afford to buy. I wanted hats that were easy to wear. I couldn't find any that met all my needs. Thus, the idea for CJ Hats was born.

How many hats do I really need?

This is THE most asked question...and the one with no clear cut answer.

For many of us, it comes down to money. So let's start with the least expensive answer...

If money is tight, I suggest you buy hat liners only. They cost $5.00 each and I sell them in more than a dozen colors. They are so versatile, you can really stretch your hat budget with them. Wear them around the house and they'll provide you with total coverage and you can pop them off and on at will.

Change their look by wearing a baseball cap over them. Regular hats, like baseball caps, leave areas of the scalp exposed. But, if you put a hat liner underneath them, VOILA! Everything you want covered is covered!

My favorite use of a hat liner? Wear it under silky, slippery scarves to prevent them from falling off your head. (Yikes)! We've all got scarves tucked away in a drawer, pull them out, tie them in back over a liner and you'll look great. If the scarf starts to slip and slide, no worries, the liner has you covered.

If your budget is a bit more flexible, I'd go with a hat liner for the above reasons, a soft flannel sleep cap, at least one Can't Fail hat, and one of the pull on knits…the EZ Chemo Cap, 3 Band Hat, or a Beret.

If you can afford it and need it, the "Dressing Up" hats are terrific. If you've got a party to attend or another "fancy" event, it's sometimes hard to find appropriate dressy chemo headwear…except here, of course! The holiday hats are also great fun to wear at Christmas dinner, etc.

AND, if money is no object, please buy one of everything!!!! You certainly don't need all those hats, but I'll appreciate the sale.

Can you recommend a hat that won't be too hot to wear?

Go with cotton…it's always cooler than synthetics. All of my knits are made from 95% cotton and 5% lycra to give it the needed stretch. 99.9% of my Can't Fail Hats are made of 100% cotton. Fabric content is listed in each description.

Size, size, size...it DOES matter...

All my hats are designed to fit heads that measure 21 - 22 1/2 inches in circumference. If your head is larger or smaller, no problem....since I sew my hats, I'm glad to make yours to fit you. Just be sure to include your head measurement when you place an order. Measure all the way around your head at forehead level.

Give your friend a hat party...

If you're a friend or relative of a newly diagnosed woman, host a Hat Party for her. . The woman about to lose her hair is "showered" with hats, and perhaps more importantly, showered with the support of her friends and family. Hat Parties can help women deal with their impending baldness, plus provide them with lots of hats when needed. And, she'll love you for making this effort on her behalf.

I cover my hair for religious reasons...will your hats fit me?

If your hair is short to mid-length, no longer than the nape of your neck, my hats will fit you. If, however, your hair is particularly thick and longer than that, I would have to make the back larger to accommodate your hair and might have to make it wider if your hair if especially thick. Please be sure to let me know if you need them bigger. What if your hair is really, really, really long? In that case, I'd take a pass and suggest that you find headwear that's specifically designed for your long hair needs.

How soon can you ship?

I ship within 3 business days of receiving your order. However, if you're in a bind, and need it shipped NOW, let me know. If I can do it, I will.

Thank you!
Thanks so much for your interest in my hats. I appreciate the time you took to find my site and to read through these questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
