Announcement    You are on BaywoodGallery.com, MaryGrden.com and MaryGrdenArtist (on Etsy). After some time away from Etsy, my renovated gallery shop is all new, even the images. Please LOOK PAST my sales since 2014. Illness prevented me from engaging my shop here on Etsy, but with God's grace I am utilizing my domain name BaywoodGallery.com. to begin again and bring my art to many to enjoy. Baywood Gallery.com has brought me along to this point, and I am Painting and making Fine Art Canvas and Paper Prints and gifts of my oil paintings and hoping to bring my sales numbers up with all of your support. As an Artist, I am unique in that I do everything handmade from the painting, to rendering the art for print; printing, packaging and shipping (free domestically). If you need larger prints of anything I print, I have what Etsy calls a partner who prints larger for me.

My Original Oils are priced, so most people can afford and please if you have a price you think you can afford, just ask me to consider it.

My prints come framed or unframed in standard sizes. I have some "Personalized" prints that I can digitally add a personal touch and give you or a friend a personalized " Fine Art Print" (under menu as "Personalized)

The simplicity of framing Canvas in a Standard Size Frames is a 1-2-3 concept and I have been doing for quite some time. Instructions for framing and care of my Canvas and Paper prints they are inside with your print, along with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by me.

Canvas and Paper Prints are mounted on acid-free mat board cut to fit your print which is identical to the size of the frame you will buy. (if you buy an 11x17 loose (unfamed) print look for a frame that is 11x17 inches) or measure the size of the glass. There are all sorts of non-standard frames that are ready made that you can buy. All you have to do is measure the back enclosing board, because that is the size the print needs to be. I have one frame I buy that is made for three 5x7 prints. I take the mat out and I have a large opening that I format for two of my very long prints. You may have a frame and want to use it. Measure it and I will tell you if I can frame or what to buy if you buy unframed.

Fine art prints framed or unframed make beautiful gifts for Weddings, Birthdays, etc. Keep those "Personalized" prints in mind. Write me about anything art, I think I can probably answer for you. I am a self-taught artist and have learned a lot along my path.

Mary Grden, Fine Art Oil Painter and Print Maker

I paint in an Expressionism style. Expressionism is opposite from Realism, in that Realistic painters try to paint exactly what they see. Expressionism allows the Artist to paint what they feel. It's a bit like taking my memories and placing them on my Canvas to create a feeling. Composition is enhanced because you are able to move objects about, insert them, and reveal a mood or feeling in doing so.

Your view of my shop will take you to Santorini, Mykonos, Venice, or to see windows, doors, gates, chairs, umbrellas, patios, flowers, vines, stone walkways, Venice Canals, colorful houses, waterways, boats, harbors, and beachy? Is that a word? It is in my shop. My shop sells Prints I make from my Original Oil Paintings and current Originals Oil Paintings for sale. Prints have a life too, approximately 100 years and I hope their final destination is actually on your wall(s). Most are standard size, some are not. Prints that I make are digitally rendered by me first and are archived on backup drives.

I have added a couple of photos of my original studio, above, which was a redwood barn on the back of our property originally without a roof or electricity. It took sometime to get the tin roof on; add the front entry and used picket fence; and pour the cobblestone walkway leading in; and lastly the wood burning stove and oh, under the caved in roof were the two bird houses we rescued. Like many artists an extra room in your home serves as a studio. I work has seen many shows, a few galleries, an artist's coop gallery, my own small gallery where Baywood Gallery was born, a gallery in a forest overlooking a lake and still, the one I remember fondly is my "barn". "It really doesn't matter where I create, it only matters that I do." Most artist have an extra room for their studio and I now do too with my original antique easel, my archival printer, the last of my beveled edged canvases ready for paint; a work table for prints and projects; a wonderful large window for painting light; walls full of my latest paintings and everything I need. I prize my glass Palettes for my oils that I can scrape clean, and all my storage for Archival Canvas and Watercolor Paper for my Prints.

I love painting texture with my knives, cracks and crevices, oldness, and from days gone by with my favorite "flat" brushes. It's fun Painting the detail of real life like the little wooden bird hanging under a shade that I captured one Sunday Morning in "Mykonos Walk." Or the yellow flower in a vase on a table along side of the salt and pepper in "Breakfast in Santorini", our breakfast room in a Santorini hotel. And here's a thought about hanging Fine Art in the laundry room. "Hanging out in Venice" is perfect and yes it is alright to hang fine art anywhere, it really is.

I am a self-taught artist who found my passion for painting at an early age, but getting a degree in Art was not in my life in the late 60's. I would be thirty-one when I decided to take a brief course in color mixing. From there I taught myself to sketch and perspective. Perspective is important to a painter because without it, nothing is cohesive. I learned how perspective related to form its position on the canvas; how it relates to color and changes objects from a 2-d format into a 3-D illusion. Color and perspective applied with each other in mind allow sunlight to be cast, shadows to form and buildings to face east, west or places in between. It can tell us if the sun is to rise or set and give us the reality of an open door or window. it is a blessing to an Oil Painter and Print Maker to be an "Expressionist." God chooses all passions as "Blessings". I could have had a different passion, but I am so very grateful he picked this one for me.

My first Art show was frightening, but sold all of my paintings and someone called my art, "Fine Art". It wasn't the money that made me continue and it didn't measure my success; It was the way I felt inside and I can still remember how fascinated I was that people actually loved my work. I will never forget that day. That is what an artist should feel and not forget.

In 1998, I was accepted into the Sausalito Art Festival in California. After the festival and with my success there, my husband and I were able to travel to Greece and Italy. We snapped nearly a 1000 pictures of doors and windows and houses along the way. When I came home, I quit my full-time job and became a full-time Artist and have been painting and printing ever since. Hope you enjoy the journey thru my Art and if you “favorite” me here in my shop, you can come along for the "ride."

"Oil painting is to me much like writing is to an author. Once the paint is put to the canvas, many more than one, can enjoy."

Why I include a Certificate of Authenticity signed by me with prints.

Care instructions

I will include care instructions with each print or original painting. Framed Canvas prints are sold without the glass However you can request that the glass cover the Canvas. I personally like the brilliance that the canvas affords the viewer. The canvas is treated, and will last as long as a paper print behind glass, if hung away from extended periods of direct sunlight. Clean Canvas with a soft dry painting brush without liquids. The Print and its mounting board take up the space where the glass was. Paper prints are sold and shipped with glass. Both paper and glass prints have a life expectancy of 100 years plus. If your print becomes damaged in the future, please contact me.
