About

Meet the Artist...

Mary Jill began doodling and drawing tiny drawings at age two. She was influenced as a child by the miniatures and animal illustrations of Beatrix Potter, the whimsical art of Paul Klee, Marc Chagall and the wild sixties colors of Peter Max. M.J. received her art degree (majoring in graphic design) at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After more than a decade of challenging work as a graphic designer, she changed her focus to fine art and illustration.

Inspired by the landscapes, sunsets and wildlife of northern Michigan, M.J. creates artwork with watercolor, oils, acrylics, pen and ink, and digital mixed media.

Mary Jill's paintings are in collections in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. Her studio is located in northern Michigan, near Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan.

Welcome to Maryjill's...Thanks for taking time to read the shop policies!

Creating custom artwork for you is my specialty...please feel free to contact me! If you are interested in commissioning a custom portrait or artwork, or if you need a print in a different size, send me a message!

HOW MY CUSTOM ORDER POLICY WORKS:

I don't do sketches, make sample layouts or begin custom artwork before the listing is purchased, as payment in full is required before custom work can take place. I am happy to communicate with you beforehand to answer any questions you may have, or to discuss prices, media, sizes, background choices, number of subjects, your photo and color choices etc. I'll set up a reserved custom listing specifically for you.

When your custom listing is purchased, I'll begin to work on your portrait once payment is received. If you need something quickly, I am flexible and willing to work within your deadline. When I work on my custom portraits, I fully involve my clients in the process, and I welcome their input! I'll send several jpeg images of the work in progress, so you will have the opportunity to weigh in on the composition, hair, eye and fur color, etc. I have found that by working together in this way we can capture the likeness and personality of the subject and create the exact portrait you have in mind!

Once I feel that the portrait is near completion, I'll email you a final image for approval. From there you can either approve your portrait or let me know of any final tweeks or changes. After that I will complete any required final adjustments (which will be free of charge, within reason.) With your final okay, I will finish the final details (stretching canvas, matting, varnish, etc.)

Your satisfaction is VERY important to me. Before shipping I'll send you a digital photograph of your new work of art. Unfortunately, I cannot offer returns or exchanges on custom artwork or portraits due to their custom nature and the many hours that go into making them.

If one of my pieces arrives to you damaged I will do everything to remedy the situation. Contact me if there's a problem!
