Me melting glass over my torch flame
Just a Girl and her Torch
In 2005 I found myself with three kids in their teenage years who didn't need me quite as much, and I had some free time on my hands. I had seen lampwork beads and was completely intrigued. I found an artist to teach me a beginning lesson and I was off to the races!
I spent a lot of time reading, studying, and mostly melting a lot of glass, learning how to make the glass do what I wanted it to, and also learning how to allow it to have its own voice. There is a lot of fun chemistry (not the boring classroom kind) to working with glass which never stops drawing me in. Two colors of glass can combine and create new colors and effects that neither would on its own.
I love bringing in vintage and repurposed materials to combine with glass. I wrap molten glass around vintage skeleton keys, and fill repurposed sewing machine bobbins with glass that I then turn into unique and interesting pendants and other jewelry. I use recycled glass from wine bottles or old Milk of Magnesia bottles for a beautiful cobalt blue.
