Lithuanian skies most of the time are covered with grey clouds coming from the Baltic and beloved Lithuanian fiber is flax that mostly is used in a raw gray/brownish color, not even bleached.
Growing up and living in the world where the preferred color is gray I was looking for a more colorful world and I found it when I discovered quilting as a form of art.
Quilting has never been a true Lithuanian craft. Women here were taught to weave or crochet from the same gray color flax fibers. I love those too, that's in my blood. But I am also on a mission of blending together not only color and fabric but also of Lithuanian and American craft and art. I feel that I belong to both cultures now.
Idea is the engine that makes me start a new quilt. When I get an idea I have no problem working. I never design on a paper, mostly just cut into fabric. Then I arrange pieces in a way that pleases my eyes.
Since I moved back to Lithuania I had to start by dyeing my own fabric too because there are no quilt shops here and no supplies for quilting at all.
I've never thought I would sell something. I started making quilts for gifts first but then a friend advised me to join Etsy.
Especially now, when I moved back to live in Lithuania, Etsy shop is my connection to those who love my quilts. I've never sold anything in Europe, I guess my quilts really look American as I was told many times before.
