About

Love of books. Love of art. Passion for antique fashion.

I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, where my parents worked at the Bolshoi Theatre. From my youngest days, many of which were spent backstage and in the costume hall I aquired passionate love of costumes and everything to do with ballet and opera. My other passion is books, the classics in particular, that is why my artwork generally reflects classic literature characters and period costumes.

I find my inspiration for paintings in books, regency fashion plates, victorian catalog illustrations, antique photographs, works of great masters of old, photos I come across on the internet, period drama and nature.

My work usually starts as a thought as I am reading (or rereading) a good book, as an idea, I then run downstairs to quickly sketch it or at least write down the idea. I normally work on nice, thick 140 lbs. cold press watercolor paper. Sketching is the hardest and most labor intensive part of the process for me. I find my models in old paintings or on the internet and sometimes even in shopping catalogs, since live models are a luxury of a rich painter :) Then comes the stretching of the paper to make sure it does not get bumpy during the painting and the best part, applying the watercolors.

Welcome to my Etsy Store!
My artwork is heavily influenced by my love for literature and theatre, and all the beautiful things that surround us. All of my artwork is genuine and painted on professional watercolor paper or canvas. I hope that if you buy my art it will not only decorate your home or make a fabulous gift, but also bring joy to your heart and remind you of that favourite book! If you want your item framed, it can be done at extra charge.

Additional policies and FAQs
I welcome custom orders. I do not do portraits or nudes, but everything else is welcome. Pricing depends on the size of the piece and the time it takes to paint it.
