This is definitely one of the best cat jewelry designs on etsy. I find most sellers focus too much on detail and realism, which when limited to a small space like a brooch or pendant, ends up looking awkward. But this brooch gets it right. The way the swirls suggest a cat and its slinking movement is excellent, also the patterned tail is the most unique way I've seen a cat's tail portrayed and its what got my attention in the first place. Very pleased with my purchase!

Another high quality brooch for me! Arrived right on time, with appropriate protective packaging. I loved the Salmon of Knowledge story for a while but never thought to buy something to commemorate it, until I saw the scale pattern on this fish actually looks like a celtic design ensuring it looks more mythical than ordinary making it definitely worth buying. I plan to wear it to one of many yearly Fisherman's Picnic Gatherings to show it off---a nod toward my Irish heritage and the fishing village a grew up in. I have it pinned to silver scarf and the combined shine of both the scarf and the brooch really makes it look lively! I'm happy I found this!

About

The ancient craftsmen of the Celts, Vikings and Saxons have always inspired me and my work.

Some 35 years ago a younger Ark decided to try to make his living making cloak clasps and medieval jewellery. I had done glass sculpture for ten years and was up for trying something new. I had discovered the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a Medieval reenactment group, who sought to recreate a more perfect version of Medieval times centered around the code of chivalry. These people dressed in Medieval clothing and there was a need for authentic jewellery and especially for cloak clasps, since everyone had a cloak. I built a wooden cart to sell my wares from, and Ark's Cart was born. A few years later I was awarded the status of Master within the group and it became Master Ark's Cart.
The business eventually out grew the cart, but my major venues were still Medieval events.

Life changed. I quit making Medieval jewellery, and sold my business and designs to another Medieval jeweller. I moved from New Mexico to Maui, fell in love, and went to England. From England I visited numerous museums, seeing first hand pieces that I had only seen in books and so many things that never make it into books. There were so many things waiting for me to make them! I moved to Canada with my new wife, bought back some of my original designs, and started making new pieces. Master Ark's was reborn.

Now as a much older Ark I have reluctantly entered the 21st century. It is very different than the 10th century where I feel so at home! And here is Etsy - a way to offer my creations to a whole new group of people!

Thank you for being one of those people! There are still so many pieces that I want to make and share with you!

Production partners

  • Karen Lee

    Calgary, AB

Karen has a great sense of design and colour. She creates gemstone necklaces and earrings, often utilizing my pieces in her designs. We have been working together for over a decade and she adds another dimension to Master Ark's creations.

  • Sean Chappell

    Franklinton, NC

Once I create a piece of jewelry, Sean makes a mold from my original. He uses that mold to make wax copies of my piece. He then uses the lost wax casting method to reproduce the piece in bronze or silver. He sends it to me and I finish it to sell.
