ABOUT THE MAKER OF MATHIEKNITS

Started in 2016, MATHIEKNITS has evolved over the past few years, with more intricately knit items and a broadening of the range of products. MATHIEKNITS is a one-woman small business, crafting hand-knit accessories from all natural, hand-dyed, premium Merino wool.

I have been knitting for over 16 years. A drive to be creative, & encouragement from others who have received my items as gifts, has given me the confidence to open the MATHIEKNITS store as a part-time small business. I take pride in the items I create, have a keen sense for detail, and I meticulously choose colorways to represent my brand.

I exclusively use high quality merino wool in all of my garments & products. When purchasing knitwear, you should always check to see what it is made from! Not only do I only use the highest quality yarns in my products, I also only use yarn that is ethically sourced.

My name is Emily Mathieson. I am a 29 year old graduate of the Biological Sciences, having focused my degree on Ecology & Fisheries. I completed an internship with the National Park Service as a Native Trout Conservationist in Yellowstone National Park.

I am fascinated by the natural world, and this is where the inspiration for selecting the colors I work with comes from. All of my hand-knit items are named after some aspect of the natural world, may it be types of plants, animals, minerals, fossils, or ecological terms.

Although I have a passion for biology, I have needed to switch gears and currently I am learning how to write & create code through online courses & experimenting with my own projects. I am currently working towards becoming a Web Developer ( my main MK website was one of my first major projects! ), and have an exploratory interest in game design & development.

Running, maintaining, & creating for MATHIEKNITS is an enjoyable side project and hobby, and has been increasing in success with each successive year. It is something I truly enjoy doing, and is both therapeutic and rewarding.

Frequently asked questions
Can I wash it?

Yes! Gently hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry. You CAN put these items in the washing machine & dryer if you wish, but it is recommended to set to gentle/delicate cycle with LOW heat.

Will it fit me?

All individual items have a size description on the etsy shop link. Most items are crafted towards the average woman. If you are concerned about sizing, and feel you would like more information or need a special order, please email me at mathieknits@gmail.com

Do you do special orders?

On occasion, yes! If there is a particular colorway you are looking for in an item type, send me an email at mathieknits@gmail.com to discuss options. All specials orders must have a 50% down payment, and the remaining is due at shipping time. Madelinetosh is currently backordered, so there will be a wait!

What makes it special?

All natural, hand-dyed merino wool yarn is truly unique. Each color combination is painstakingly chosen and is inspired by the natural world. Merino wool is incredibly soft, yet also surprisingly durable and long lasting. All of my items are hand-knit, as opposed to machine knitting. Each item is carefully constructed in a smoke-free environment.

How do you choose your prices?

Each hand-knit item is priced mainly on the cost of materials. I only use the highest quality yarn, and therefore you are paying for quality! Low quality, artificially dyed acrylic yarns are 1/8 the cost of the high quality yarns I choose to create from. I find knitting to be a hobby and enjoyable, and therefore the cost of the item is not solely based on how long it takes me to create it. I merely only add a small hourly fee for time, as well as handling.
