Finding the extraordinary in the ordinary

YOU WILL CREATE BEAUTY WITH YOUR HANDS
Tucked above her husbands furniture store is a magical creative-oasis Nicole Slater calls “the Artist’s Loft” It has a birds eye view of downtown Modesto California A mid-size town she calls home. She shares this space with locals and visitors from Many states. Teaching art to students and sharing art with patrons is Nicole’s creative ability to spread the joy of art!
Born in Minnesota and eventually settling in California Nicole found being outdoors was a playground of discoveries for her art. At age five she already showed a creative spirit and was most content sitting outside sketching nature and examining her subjects to get all the unique details. Age seven she starting entering art contests, exhibiting her work and received recognition in local papers and schools.
Nicole will never forget the profound moment when heard a voice telling her “YOU WILL CREATE BEAUTY WITH YOUR HANDS”. This is something that Nicole would carry with her through her life.
Pushing ahead to high school, Nicole lost her mother to cancer at age fifteen, Nicole realized that life was short, unpredictable and out of her control. She needed a place where she could create. A fun place to be; A world she could invent and express in art her emotions. She took art classes, camps, rounded up friends to join her and remembered the voice she once heard so clear. You will create with your hands.
That voice gave her the direction to pursue a college degree in art at Stanislaus University in Turlock California.
It was college that led to Nicole learning the printmaking process, which gave her the understanding of reverse imaging and later the technique and printed layers and beauty in etched lines. Painting abstract landscapes and drawings in perspective paved a style of the line form and love of layers and shapes with lines.
Upon graduating in the arts Nicole wanted to continue a life in business using her talents which led to a 24 year profession in the interior design field of arts. Enjoying the use of drawing rooms and perspective and eventually creating custom art for her clients. She married the furniture owner and eventually paved her own way into opening an art loft space above her husbands furniture store.
Five years into business “The Artist Loft Studio” business is a great soulful feeling Nicole was meant to have. Teaching art to hundreds of art inspired people from ages five years and up allows her to be inspired daily and develop her own art style and painting series, Nicole calls her “ENTWINE” art.
The “Entwine style” of art allows Nicole for a self expression of emotions and thoughts in her creations using her art college inspirations of using line, form and layered imagery and printmaking and Nicole Slater CREATES BEAUTY WITH HER HANDS.
