I find all the metal I need from the scrap bin. Armor and my small scale projects don't take a lot of metal compared to what modern fabricators use. I take the scrap that would go into the crucible or blast furnace for my material. About once a month I fire the coal forge up, but compared to modern manufacturing my tiny coal fire is a lot more efficient than the enormous 220v mills and lathes (probably powered by coal electricity plants)that cut huge swathes of stock out of a solid bar. It's like cutting away parts of your clay sculpture and throwing it away when you can just push it to the desired shape.

If something I make fails what it was designed for I would like to know about it and find out why it failed. If I find a design flaw I will refund all out of shear embarrassment.
If, however, it's misuse no. It's not a matter of money to me, it's a matter of suitability to the task at hand.

I generally won't do a mirror polish unless it's something someone is going to eat with. I'll change my mind when I see a period non parade suit with mirror polish that wasn't messed up by the Victorians.
I can do limited custom plate armour in 22, 18, and 16 gauge mild steel at this time. I consider armour as a one-size-fits-none job with a few exceptions. For instance, some things such as helmets, cops, and shields/bucklers are easy to buy online. Some measurements will be required for most armour.
I can except a commission through Etsy. I won't charge for any special tooling that needs to be designed for the project unless it's fairly outrageous and requires construction work to the house or some such. And at $10 an hour I think I'm pretty competitive.
NB: the shop is infested with cats and they like to smoke tabacco (ok, I lie, it's actually me.)
