About

Journey from Maudies to Ann Tudor LLC

I truly believe things happen in your life as they are meant to. But if you are aware and follow your instincts and intuition, you can find your passion. I know I have.
I have been intuitive about many things in my life. Many times, it just seemed natural, but other times, not so much! Those were the times I let other people's thoughts and fears affect my actions. I let my fear of what other people would think or feel about it stop me from doing so many things in my life! Not any more! I am going to turn 52 today! (can't believe I wrote that out loud) and I am so fortunate that I have found my passion!
I had been working in the dental field for the past 30 years (yes that is a long time). I have learned so much, met so many wonderful people along the way and been pretty safe and secure in my world.
Along with that, I have always had some sort of creative outlet, from papermaking to knitting to working with polymer clay. I started making jewelry and was giving so much of it away that in August of 2004, I started Maudies Handcrafted Jewelry to pay for my habit and maybe make a little extra cash! With a little inkling in the back of my mind, that I could do this full time. It started out with sterling silver and semi precious stones then lampwork beads were added. I liked the glass beads so much that I took a class at a local stained glass store and learned how to make a bead with a mapp gas torch and a rod of glass. I made so many of those beads that I started selling them to other jewelry designers. Then along came steampunk and upcycling. So much fun to take something ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary! This is what I have been doing pretty consistently for the last few years. I have been fortunate to be published in Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine three times and been mentioned in a couple local newspapers along with selling in some wonderful area boutiques.
Things seemed to be going along quite nicely. So, after lots and lots of discussion with my wonderfully supportive husband and some planning, I left my position at the dental office after 18 years to follow my passion! Scary but exciting at the same time. My coworkers and patients have become like family but I felt that this was something I had to do. It had gone from an inkling to a full blown nagging thought that would not leave my mind. So October 30, 2012 was my last day as a dental professional.
Funny how we think we have it all figured out. Then the universe nudges us and reveals another path. I truly believe if you pay attention and follow those clues wonderful things will start to happen. And your original plan is just the beginning of a much bigger picture. That is what has happened to me.
In November, I met with a friend of mine for lunch to celebrate my new career and her news of a job change. As we were talking, I told her about an idea for a project that has been in my head for over two years. I had made some glass lampwork fish and wanted to try to put them into an "aquarium" so they looked like they were swimming around but no maintenance, no fuss, no food, easy peasy. My friend looked at me and said, "Well, I start my new job in two weeks and I want one for my desk". I tried to explain to her that I did not know how to do it and was still working on it. She said, "Figure it out. I need it in two weeks!" So, I figued it out and she put it on her desk in mid November and by Christmas, I had sold 30 of them in various sizes for holiday gifts, just by word of mouth. Thank you Laura!
This made me realize that those ideas that keep rattling around in my head, need to be realized. I am paying attention now! I am listening! I am doing! Also rolling around in my brain was an idea for lampwork glass floral arrangments. I started making them and they are being well received! Opportunities are popping up every day now! I am so thankful! I have been accepted to Penrod Art Fair this year with my aquariums and my florals (not my jewelry that I had planned). This will be the first large event I have done and I am so excited. I was a bit freaked out when I realized all I need to get done in a relatively short amount of time. But I have a plan and a fabulous group of people around supporting me and it is good! It is all going to work out.
All of this has brought me to a decision. It has been a hard one for me but I am closing Maudies Handcrafted Jewelry and I am opening Ann Tudor LLC. It has come from much thought and deliberation over several months but this will give me the ability to expand my business to new products and more growth. My main focus at this time, will be lampwork glass items, such as the aquariums, florals, beads and jewelry.
I am so thankful for everyone that made Maudies possible and all the love and support. I hope that you will follow me on my new adventure!

I am a glass lampwork artist. I personally make all of my glass items using a torch and rods of glass. I hand form all of my creations which make them all unique to themselves. I love being able to add a bit of beauty to brighten anyone's space.

Hello! Thank you for stopping by. I make maintenance free aquariums filled with my handmade glass fish that swim in copper kelp and floral arrangements that are in covered glass containers, along with glass pendants and charms.

In addition to my lampwork jewelry, I make another line that is very different. It has an industrial, steampunk feel with touches of sparkle. I use found objects, broken bits and pieces of jewelry, coins, keys, lightbulbs, etc with a bit of rhinestone or somethings shiny and create a wearable piece of art. I love the idea of hard and soft, rust and rhinestones, mixing everyday items with the unusual because each of us have those aspects in ourselves.

A large portion of my work is done by client request. I love to make custom pieces! I am honored if I can help someone express a special feeling or commemorate an event or moment in time with a glass object or piece of jewelry.
