Announcement    COVID-19 -- Currently packages seem to be taking about 4 - 7 weeks to get from here in the UK to the US, so please disregard Etsy's delivery estimate.

I make everything here. You'll find my own exclusive designs of pendulums and rune dice, along with necklaces and pendants, bullroarers, athames, talismans bearing a variety of magical symbols, as well as my original natural wood wands which are suitable for use by followers of all paths and traditions. Staffs, stangs and the occasional rune set may pop up from time to time as well. In addition to the items I make, I also usually have available various natural ingredients for spells, incense or mojo bags. All items are unique, completely hand made without machines, totally organic, and contain no animal products. The only metal you'll find is in the beaded necklaces.

Tracking does NOT come as standard. It is available as an extra at checkout, and all orders over £125.00 will have the shipping upgraded to Tracked and Signed For at no extra cost to you.

I am happy to craft a custom item to your own specifications, so if you see something you'd like a bit different or have an idea for something made specially for you, just ask.

mazedasastoat... often imitated, never bettered.

For a full list of the woods I might have available as well as their magical properties, practical uses, related folklore and a bunch of other stuff, check out my blog at: http://www.mazedasastoat.blogspot.com/

On Etsy since 2008

Beautiful, tactile, natural wood wands, rune dice, pendants, etc.

I’ve made many pentacles, wands, staffs (or should it be staves?) pendants and rune sets over the years for friends and friends of friends, as well as having a very occasional stall here and there, and not long before Samhain 2005 someone suggested that I should try selling some items on an unmentionable online auction site. Until then almost all my work had been on a commission basis and people were usually recommended to me by someone they knew, so the slightly more commercial aspect of online selling was very new to me and a little daunting. It took me until about Yule to get my act together and actually get some items listed, but the response was phenomenal and, apart from a change of venue, I've never looked back. My items are not available anywhere else, Etsy is the only place I sell my work.

I NEVER cut trees just to get wood for crafting, neither whole branches nor thorns are taken with the express purpose of ending up in my shop. I feel that leaving a token offering really doesn't make up for damaging a tree simply to make money. Probably 90% of the wood I use comes from my own trees, and the same percentage is lost by “natural wastage”, which is usually winter gales but includes tractors and too-wide trailers. The rest is what needs to be cut back, usually because it’s blocking access to somewhere or has become unsafe for some reason. I have a good network of local landowners, gardeners, tree surgeons and farmers who let me know if they've got something they think I might like and I've even been known to "liberate" a really nice stick from unattended brash piles and bonfires!

I try to stay as close as possible to the traditional way of working with the wood, I refuse to use power tools of any kind on magical items and every bit of the work is done by my own muscle power. I believe it's important that things you handle should feel nice as well as look good, so I spend a LOT of time sanding items smooth. I'm privileged to have people trust me to make ritual items they use for both religious and magical purposes, and I try to make sure that everything leaving my hands is really well finished and top quality.

I make beautiful, tactile natural wood wands suitable for use by followers of all paths and traditions. You will also find pendants, beaded necklaces, talismans, athames, and my own exclusive designs of pendulums and rune dice, all finished to the same high standard. All the work is done the traditional way, by hand and without the use of power tools or machinery of any kind, no chemical substances are involved and nothing has metal fittings, although the beaded necklaces generally contain metal beads of some sort. Everything is vegan friendly.
Totally natural, totally organic, totally unique and totally wonderful!

Returns and exchange details
Many of my items come in a package that's not an average size and probably won't fit in a mailbox, so if you think something should have arrived but you haven't received it then please make enquiries in case it might have been left with a neighbour or taken back to the sorting office or mail depot.

Royal Mail does not consider an international parcel as "lost" until 25 working days after dispatch (which is five whole weeks) so until then there's still a chance of delivery.

All packages are clearly marked with my return address and occasionally things come back to me marked "undelivered", so if that happens I'll let you know.

If you change your mind about a purchase just let me know within a couple of weeks of you receiving it that you'd like to return it and I'll let you have the return address in case you've lost it. Once it arrives back here safely and in good condition, I'll give you a full refund of what you originally paid, but this does NOT include return shipping. Your payment will be refunded by whatever method you used to pay.

If you have upgraded your shipping option to include full insurance and an item is lost or damaged during shipping I will give you a full refund, including shipping, or a credit note or replacement item if you prefer. If you have only paid for standard shipping, then I can only offer a refund/credit note/replacement up to £20.
Payment
You can pay me via PayPal, by debit or credit card via Etsy Payments, or with an Etsy gift voucher.
Shipping
I strongly advise you to choose Tracked and Signed For as a shipping option, so your items will be fully insured. Orders over £125 will be automatically upgraded to Tracked and Signed For shipping at no extra cost to you.

I post every week day and try to dispatch all items the day after payment is received. Please allow for time differences, if it's noon where you live it might be supper time for me.

Anyone outside the UK will be contacted after their item has been dispatched and told what the package looks like so they know what to expect.

I use both new and re-used packaging materials in order to minimise my footprint on Mother Earth, and almost all of it is recyclable and biodegradeable. I avoid using plastic whenever possible, so expect paper bags rather than plastic ones. Everything is packed well enough to withstand the rigours of the postal system.

Shipping within the UK is always First Class and should arrive within 2 days of dispatch. Insurance up to £20 is included as standard, and Signed For Delivery with £50 insurance is an option available at checkout.
Shipping anywhere else is via Royal Mail International Small Parcel or Large Letter, and within Europe should arrive in 3-5 working days, everywhere else takes 5-7 working days. However, these times are only guidelines, occasionally shipping can take longer. Insurance up to £20 is included as standard, and Tracked & Signed Delivery with full insurance is available at checkout to MOST destinations.

If an item is bought as a gift I can send it to the recipient if required, but please remember that by law I must mark both the contents and their value on the customs label for any package going out of the UK. And I don't giftwrap things, if you want pretty paper you'll have to do it yourself! :-)

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, packages get held up at Customs. This is not my fault! Usually, it only adds a couple of days to the journey, but if there are complications they will contact you direct.
Additional policies and FAQs
All the wood I use is well seasoned and sound, but I cannot guarantee against faults forming over time. These can include, but are not limited to, cracks, splits, loose bark and warping. Wood is a natural material and reacts to its environment, so temperature, humidity, wear and tear, and even personal body chemistry can affect it in different ways. If you've treated your item gently, kept it dry, and given it the occasional re-oiling, and a problem still arises within a reasonable timescale then let me know and I may be able to do something about it, but each case is decided individually.

Most of my work is done on a commission basis, so don't be shy if you'd like something specific. I try to offer a good selection on Etsy, but there are so many combinations of items and wood types that it's practically impossible to cover everything. If you see anything you'd like in a different wood or a different size or with a different symbol on just ask and if I think it's do-able then I'll do it for you. :-)

I aim to have all custom items finished and ready for dispatch within 28 days of the order being finalised, and on the rare occasions that this is not possible I will contact you and explain why. For custom items that do NOT require personalised details ( such as bindrunes, initials, etc) I don't need a deposit or payment up front. For personalised items I usually ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit before I start work. Personalised items can NOT be returned, so please make sure we are both clear on the details required.

The only limits are your imagination and my skill, so together we should be able to come up with most things.

I don't sell wholesale. I keep my prices low in order to benefit my customers and clients, not so someone else can sell my items at twice the price and pocket the difference!
Privacy
I will NEVER pass on your details to anyone else! Nor will I bombard you with newsletters, advertising, promotions, emails or messages of any kind.

In fact, once you have completed your Etsy transaction and I've notified you of it's dispatch, you will never hear from me again unless you contact me first. That's a promise!

Any documents I may have with your details printed on will be shredded after three months, and your name and address are never downloaded to my computer.

Frequently asked questions
How long does shipping take to the USA/Canada/Australia?

COVID-19 -- Currently packages seem to be taking about 4 - 7 weeks to get from here in the UK to the US, so please disregard Etsy's delivery estimate.

In my experience, 2 - 3 weeks, maybe less. According to Royal Mail, international shipping from the UK should take between 3 and 7 working days. However, they won't classify an international mail item as "missing" until 25 working days after dispatch, which is 5 whole weeks, so presumeably it can sometimes take that long.

Will there be a tracking number for my package?

Not unless you choose the Tracked option at checkout, or spend more than £125.00 at one time.

Custom and personalised orders

If you see anything that you'd prefer in a different wood, or with a different symbol on it, or if you don't see what you want but you think I can make it for you, just ask! Send me an Etsy message with any requests you may have for a custom item made to your own specifications, and I'm sure we can work something out. Prices for commissioned work are roughly the same as for a similar item in my shop.

Wholesale availability

I don't sell wholesale. I'm a one-person business and make everything by hand, from scratch, which takes a long time. Each item is unique and can never be duplicated, and my items can only be bought from me here on Etsy. I keep my prices as low as I can (I pay myself the minimum wage) so they're affordable, not so someone else can sell them for twice the price and pocket the difference.
