Designs that are simple, beautiful, sustainable, slow, handmade and mostly blue... pass it forward.

I imagine that you love simplicity and beauty, like me. You may even be simplifying your life right now? Maybe you too are concerned about the future of our planet and try to buy things you love, which have been created by a sustainable business like mine? Then welcome to the natural world of mbpblue designs!

As a professional abstract artist since 2004, my life was busy with exhibitions, shows, a Diploma in Fine Arts, and over 50 private commissions for clients in Australia and overseas. But one day, I decided to put down the brush and try something different with my creativity…

I had a lump of indigo sitting on my studio shelf, which I had bought from a local Balinese artist during a holiday in 2013. It had been beeping me for two years, but I didn’t know what to do with it! The instructions on how to make a natural fruit dye pot felt too overwhelming. So, in a moment of curiosity, I picked up the indigo block, scraped off a bit of powder, mixed it with water, grabbed a few leaves from the garden and started to make a few mono prints on paper. Soon, there were mono leaf prints all over the studio floor…and something clicked!

I decided that I wanted my new creations to be as organic and sustainable as possible. So with the help of some wonderful textile artists around the world, I discovered how to print with indigo onto fabric using an ancient Japanese curing process which is 100% natural. This was fun!

My textile creations are natural fabrics that are ethically made, including cotton, silk, linen and pure Australian merino wool. I hand print using organic indigo and rainforest leaves from my garden. Simple and slow, the fabric is naturally air-cured for up to 30 days in nature and gently hand washed in rain water and pure lavender oil, in the naturally pristine location of Byron Bay.

I've always been a bit of a minimalist at heart, which is also reflected in my simple jewellery designs, made from natural pearls and crystals.

Only one set of hands lovingly creates all mbpblue designs. A lot of presence, love and joy goes into each one-of-a-kind creation. I hope that you will enjoy and value my designs for years to come and, if you do feel that it is time to part, please pass it forward to a friend, rather than throw it away.

Thanks again for popping in and taking a look around. Feel free to ask me any questions or offer some feedback on my designs. Just send me an Etsy convo or email to mbpbluedesigns (at) gmail.com

Frequently asked questions
Textile Care instructions

These items are created using an ancient Japanese method for impregnating fabric with indigo pigment. It is an organic process and can take up to 30days for the fabric to cure. It is highly recommended that you hand wash your textiles in a gentle manner with gentle fabric wash. Dry out in the shade and if needed, use a cool iron.

Jewellery Care instructions

Some items are made using a gold or silver coloured Japanese bead wire which is soft and flexible, however, will crimp if you handle without care. DO NOT bend the wire but rather hang the piece when you are not wearing it on a hook, a picture or similar to avoid damaging it.

Eco Friendly gift wrapping and packaging

Items are gift wrapped and packaged carefully. Plastic wrapping i.e. bubble wrap is avoided wherever possible, preferring reclaimed or recycled tissue paper and cloth. My aim is to keep packaging minimal, eco friendly and compostable. Items are shipped in tough paper bags or slim boxes. This flat-packing method saves considerable shipping costs. If you have any special requests please convo or email me - mbpbluedesigns@gmail.com. Thank you.

Wholesale availability

Please note that I do not offer discounts for bulk orders. If you are interested in placing a wholesale order, please email me - mbpbluedesigns@gmail.com.

International Shipping

I use Australia Post - Standard International Delivery - service for parcels. This DOES include tracking which is more expensive, however, I feel gives both you and me a greater level of confidence your parcel will arrive safely. Please note - if multiple items are purchased the shipping may be more. It's always best to check so please convo me and I am happy to give you a quote. Thanks.

Once a package is shipped I can not be responsible if your package does not arrive in time for a special occasion. I do my very best to get items shipped as quickly as possible. I ask that you are aware of these postage times and conditions prior to placing your order. Sometimes parcels are delayed for several weeks in international customs. If you do not receive your package please notify me within 30days of ordering.
