    About

    m c b e a r d c e r a m i c s

Mcbeard Ceramics (est. May 2016) are designed and handcrafted in Colorado Springs, Colorado by Colorado native and pastry-chef-turned-ceramist Hilary McCandless-Beard. Each piece is made carefully by hand in a minimalist style intended to highlight the food or drink served from it. Mcbeard Ceramics are available through local Colorado Springs retailer Ladyfingers Letterpress. They are used for service in restaurants and coffee shops including Loyal Coffee in Colorado Springs, and Ruka Restobar in Boston. Please reach out for more information regarding wholesale, foodservice, or starting your personal collection!

    Additional policies and FAQs
M c b e a r d C e r a m i c s are individually handmade in small batches and vary accordingly. Pieces are imperfect and exact details may vary from those shown in photographs. Characteristics of handmade ceramics include bumps, dips, and varying texture / color within the clay body, as well as drips, crackle, specks, spots, and variation in color, texture and speckling within glazes. Glaze thickness may vary, and spots or sections of clay may be visible. Iron speckling from reduction firing varies from a fine pepper-like sprinkling over the entire glazed surface, to large, dark iron "blossoms" which may appear anywhere on the piece. Glaze finish, texture, and color varies depending on location in kiln. Variation in exact size and volume is common. Characteristics of high fired gritty stoneware include rough bases which smooth with time/washing but may scratch furniture if used on bare tabletops, etc. These idiosyncrasies and details add interest to tableware with an otherwise minimalist design. They are what separate Mcbeard Ceramics from big-box factory-made tableware. Each piece is carefully inspected before shipping. If you are for any reason unhappy with your order, please see the return policy (above).

    Frequently asked questions

Why is my shipping cost so high?

Shipping costs are estimates based on delivery location, and package size and weight. Ceramics are relatively heavy, large, and fragile and must be packed accordingly. If the actual cost of shipping is lower than what you paid, you will be refunded overages (minus packing costs).

Do you make ______ item in ______ color/style?

All available items at any given time will be listed in the shop for your convenience. If not listed, the item is not available.

Are these bowls, plates, mugs, etc. dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe?

Mcbeard Ceramics are dishwasher safe, but please avoid thermal shock caused by extreme changes in temperature (for example please do not place a cold plate into a super hot wash cycle). Not for use on stove-top or broiler. Stoneware plates are not recommended for use in the microwave and must be heated with extreme caution when using the oven.

I live in Colorado Springs. Can I pick up my order in person?

Locals! As much as I adore you, I can't meet up and deliver orders individually. Please sign up for my newsletter at mcbeardceramics.com or follow @mcbeardceramics on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to find out about local pop-up sales. And stop by Ladyfingers Letterpress in Downtown Colorado Springs to shop their selection of Mcbeard Ceramics mugs and cups in person!

Can I add Mcbeard Ceramics to my wedding registry?

Sure! Feel free to link to any of my products in your online registry, but do keep in mind that ready-to-ship sets and individual items may sell out. Made-to-order sets of certain items are generally available, and require 8-10 weeks production time before shipping.

    I bought _______ , __________ , and ____________ . Is there a discount for __________ ? How much for a dozen of _______________?

All prices are as listed. No "bulk" or other discounts.

    I'm a food photographer/stylist/blogger/etc. Can we collaborate?

I cannot send out free product, but get in touch for a discount I've created just for industry folks who would like to tag my products in their work.

I love your work! Can you make ______________ for me in a custom design/color/style?

I do not make custom designs/colors/styles or products. All available items are listed in the shop.
